Mid-September sees the return of .werise with his Transformative Breathwork and Soundbath workshop to the pod.

You will get the chance to take part in an engaging, energising and experiential style of breathwork that can help free your nervous system from stress that has accumulated within your body. There is also the potential for it to make you feel more connected to yourself and gain a wider perspective on life’s challenges.

A lot of these positive effects are led by the technique’s ability to switch off the front part of your brain, where the inner self-critic lives. So you get to notice what it’s like not to have that part of your mind make decisions on your behalf, even if only in part and for a short period of time. That realisation, alone, can be profound.

You will then be brought back down to Earth by the grounding influence of various instruments in an effects-driven soundbath, to enhance the cocoon-like, protective feel of the pod.

BREATH + SOUND combines two of my favourite practices: A 30 minute session of an engaging and releasing form of conscious connected breathwork followed by a 20 minute soundbath to bring you back down to Earth.

Yes, there’s a chance it can lead to emotional release, though not always. If it does, I explain that:-

a) Any form of release is beneficial for your nervous system.
b) Emotions often arise without any context, so not necessarily attached to any memories.
c) Emotional release is a very physiological response and should be thought of as a physical need.
d) You’re in a room full of like-minded people.

I always describe this type of practise as an opportunity to put on your own oxygen mask first, because this session is a chance for you to prioritise your own needs.

Summer is in full swing and that often means plans galore for a lot of us - long, active days where our social battery can feel drained.

We *should* feel as uplifted as the days are Sunny and hot, yet we still feel pulled in so many different directions and we try to fit so much into the one cloud-free month of the year that our mind is chasing a never-ending to do list and the *next* moment rather than THIS one, right here and now.

Your nervous system will never necessarily ask for it, because it doesn’t know how, but it’s important to seek “active rest”. And there is a difference. Getting back to those positive mental habits, to breathing with purpose, to slowing everything down whilst still remaining present and alert is a choice.

The choice to turn inward when the allure of looking outward and far beyond ourselves in these Summer months is a resilient one, but one that will help us deeply and in the long term nonetheless.

On Sunday morning, new and experienced yogis alike, joined me for a vinyasa flow class to tie in the celebrations of both International Yoga Day and celebrating a decade of their align range of clothing .

It’s moments like this that I have to catch my breath and feel ever so grateful for getting to deliver these sessions, represent .studio on a bigger-stage , share my love of yoga and teach on behalf of a brand that has community-building at their heart.

Everyone was incredible in each class and a credit to themselves 💪🏻🧘‍♂️

The session ended with some delicious, healthy food and drink.

Hello! I realised I haven’t reintroduced myself and said “hi”, since Vera and I opened .studio at the start of the year. So, please continue reading on for a little bit about my journey, particularly for those new to who I am and what I do. Thank you for following me so far!

My name is James and I grew up on a small farm, a pig sanctuary of all places! I practised meditation and Reiki a lot as a teen, which was not something anyone else in my family did at the time.

Then skip ahead to 2020, when I became a sound therapist - with the intention of providing people with opportunities for quality rest and relaxation. It’s difficult to fully recuperate with your head swimming with thoughts and I found soundbaths to be a great way to calm the mind.

I then trained as a gentle breathwork and meditation coach, because I’d recognised that we can learn even more about ourselves once we’re no longer in fight or flight mode. This was at a time when school teaching had left me feeling constantly anxious and I realised there was something very empowering about taking back control!

I became a conscious connected breathwork facilitator in 2023, as I wanted others to glimpse what it feels like to have zero intrusive thoughts and release the burden of stress on the nervous system. It’s one of those practices that I can say has had a profound impact on me and, as with most things that I’ve tried and tested, I love to teach and pass those techniques on if they can be of benefit to anyone else.

Last Summer, I finally took the plunge and became a yoga teacher. I had the most amazing training experience with which, a mere 10 months later, has stood me in good stead to host regular classes alongside my beautiful wife .werise in our own, dedicated space.

Becoming a yoga teacher was such a humbling experience! I’ve mentored school teachers before and having to pick myself back up after a bad class, in those fledgling days, was tough! As a secondary science teacher of over ten years, I’ve long known what it takes to be a great teacher - regardless of the discipline - so that’s seen me evolve into the motivational, reflective yoga teacher I am today.

Join me throughout June .studio . We have something very special planned on the morning of International Yoga Day, which coincides with the Summer Solstice.

Planning is underway for the soundbath and breathwork sessions, which are just around the corner. Save those dates already!

The studio is our corner of tranquility within , which we have lovingly set up to offer as a light and inviting space for you to experience yoga, mobility-based movement, breathwork, meditation and sound therapy. A home-from-home and a wholesome community that is ready to meet you where you are at.

Just leaving this here, so I can fondly look back on my first ever beach yoga class and sea dip. Planned on a whim, but the conditions were perfect 🌅

A serious ‘pinch me’ moment, because it doesn’t get better than teaching to the sound of waves and birds as your backing track 🏖️

And a massive shout-out to the yogis that came at such short notice, so early in the morning to experience it. How lucky I am to know you and how lucky are we to live here!

There will definitely be more beach sessions, this is just the start.
