Who's in their third trimester 🙋‍♀️ Which vegetable or fruit is your baby bump comparable to this week?

Remember, whilst thinking about your baby rhubarb or melon, keep an eye on their movements and pattern. Never be afraid to give your Midwife or Maternity Unit a quick call if something doesn't feel quite right.

We always recommend lightweight bedding instead of bulky bedding. But in the warmer months, your little one might not need a cover at all and will be best in just their vest or baby grow. And of course, when it’s really hot, it’s perfectly fine for them to just sleep in a nappy!
-
You’ll know it’s time to remove a layer if your baby’s chest is clammy, or the back of their neck.

Our free baby check app is designed to give you extra peace of mind on your baby’s health.
-
Open the app when you think your baby is unwell. It will ask you a few quick questions and calculate whether your baby seems to be well, mildly ill or should be taken to see a doctor or health professional.
-
Search ‘baby check app’ in your app store and download it for free!

Soft, squishy material could make your little one too hot or it could cover a baby’s mouth and nose if they’re pressed against it. That’s why we advise against using pods and nests (these are a softer/cushioned type of sleep surface that are sometimes used alone or as well as a mattress).
-
Research shows that a firm, entirely flat sleep surface is safer and reduces the chance of SIDS. The safest place for a baby to sleep is in their own clear, flat, separate space such as a cot or Moses basket.

If you’re visiting family or friends this Christmas, you might need to bring something with you for your baby to sleep in. For babies that usually sleep in a cot or Moses basket, a travel cot is a great option when travelling.

You might’ve noticed that the travel cot mattress feels thinner and harder than a regular cot. This is completely normal, so don’t be tempted to place folded blankets or a quilt under your baby to try to make them ‘more comfortable’ as this might cause your baby to become too hot.

Take a look at some more of our tips for using a travel cot this Christmas ⬇️

• Use a cot with a rigid and firm base
• The cot’s mattress should be firm, flat, and have a waterproof cover
• Don’t put extra padding, folded blankets, or quilts under your baby
• Do not place the cot next to a radiator or have a heat source, like a portable heater, directly aimed at your baby
• Keep away from blind cords or other hazards

We are not aware of any advice for babies to wear masks, whether they are infected or not. There is a potential risk of suffocation and other hazards with doing this. The latest Government guidance says that Children under 2 years do not need to wear masks.
