💚 January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month 💚

Each year, around 3,250 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer in the UK, and it can affect people of all ages. The good news is that the UK cervical screening programme saves an estimated 5,000 lives every year.

Cervical screening is not a test to diagnose cancer – it’s a test designed to help prevent it. The screening checks for high-risk HPV, and if it’s found, looks for any cell changes that can be treated early, before cervical cancer develops.

If you’ve received your invitation but are feeling unsure or nervous about booking your appointment, these websites offer clear, reassuring information and advice:

When you attend your appointment, please know that the nurse will fully explain everything, take their time, and support you without judgement. Your comfort and dignity always come first.

If you’re due, consider booking your screening — it really could save your life. 💚

The NHS HPV vaccination programme in England has been shown to dramatically reduce HPV infections and significantly lower cervical cancer rates in women who were eligible for the vaccine—especially those vaccinated at a younger age.

If you missed your HPV vaccine at school, it’s not too late. You can still get protected up until your 25th birthday.
