A calm and creative afternoon at Fernhill 🎨🌸

Residents were guided by artist Joh as they painted spring blossom trees, each adding their own colours and techniques. The result was a lovely collection of unique artwork, enjoyed by all.

We celebrated World Book Day last week with a Treasure Island-themed scavenger hunt, that took us around the home and even all the way to Poole Quay!

Residents and staff spent some time in the run up to the day designing t-shirts to ensure we looked the part 🏴‍☠️🦜

We had a wonderful time taking part in Alzheimer's Society's Denim for Dementia Day. It was a joy to welcome Malcolm from Biodanza for a music and movement session, as well as craft our own denim goods, and help raise awareness for such an important cause 🩵

There was laughter, applause and more than a little amazement at Fernhill recently, as resident Graham saw a long-held wish come to life ✨🪄

After sharing how much he had always enjoyed magic, the team arranged for magician Alistair Brien to perform at the home. The result was an afternoon full of clever illusions, quick wit, and genuine surprise, with residents watching closely as each trick unfolded.

Graham was captivated throughout and fellow residents, family members, and team members all joined in the fun. Afterwards, Graham’s daughter Sally shared how lovely it was to see her dad enjoying himself so much and thanked the team for bringing the idea to life.

From energetic dances to slower, more relaxed movements, everyone joined in - whether on the dance floor or from their armchairs.

Fernhill residents recently enjoyed a fun minibus trip to sister home, The Aldbury Dementia Care Home 🎶🚌

Musician Nigel Revill played live, and everyone joined in singing and dancing to favourites like Bring Me Sunshine and Sweet Caroline. Afterwards, residents shared tea, cake, and a chat with The Aldbury residents.

Fernhill residents recently enjoyed a visit from Prana Traditional Thai, a community dance group who shared a selection of traditional Thai performances.

Several of the performers are colleagues from our sister home, The Aldbury Dementia Care Home, making the occasion especially meaningful.

Afterwards, residents spoke about how much they enjoyed the experience - we hope to welcome the dancers back again soon!

A therapeutic farm, High Mead offers individuals living with additional needs the opportunity to engage in an array of activities.

We can’t wait to spend the year raising funds, learning more about their work, and making a difference together with our residents, team, and community.

Winter Olympics fun is coming to Fernhill! 🏅❄️

Our residents recently had a fantastic time preparing for the big event, making flags, medals, torches, crowns, and an Olympic sign to cheer on the house teams. A joyful, creative afternoon that got us all excited for the Winter Olympics week ahead.

We celebrated an Elvis Presley's birthday here at Fernhill 🎶

Resident and fan Robert wowed everyone dressed as Elvis, singing along with Companion Ann Marie, while others joined in the sing-along and embraced the 1950s theme. A wonderful afternoon filled with music, fun, and smiles 🎸

What an incredible honour it has been over the past year to raise funds for such a worthy cause, Ferndown dementia friendly town 💚

Our team and residents were thrilled to hand over a cheque this week and hear more about how the money will help those in the community 🙌

What a wonderful way to spend the first full week of January – being invited along to Fernhill Dementia Care Home

We are incredibly grateful that the staff and residents at Fernhill chose FDFT as their Charity of the Year for 2025 💚 We were absolutely delighted to be presented with a cheque for an amazing £1,313.15 🙌
And of course, very much enjoyed being spoilt with bubbles and cake too! 🍾🎂

This generous fundraising will be put to great use supporting our Seed to Larder project, in partnership with Ferndown Community Support feat Ferndown Community Larder and bank and Ferndown & Parley Rotary.

Thanks to Fernhill’s support, we will be able to secure a fully accessible toilet at our allotment site from spring through to autumn again, ensuring the space remains Dementia Friendly. This means people living with dementia can continue to visit and enjoy our wonderful allotment throughout the year 🌱💚

A huge thank you to everyone at Fernhill Dementia Care Home – staff and residents alike – for your kindness, generosity, and support. We truly appreciate it.
