Powered by local milk! 🥛☕️

Between the tea, coffee, and (of course) the occasional biscuit, we go through a lot of milk here at the practice!

To cut down on plastic waste, we’ve switched to local milk delivered in traditional glass bottles. Once they’re empty, they’re collected, washed, and reused. It’s a simple way to support our local dairy farmers and keep a mountain of plastic out of the recycling bin. Cheers to that! 🙌🐮

Can My Pet Eat This? Easter Edition 🍽️🐾

We get it… those puppy eyes at the dinner table are HARD to resist.

Here’s a quick Easter food guide:

✅ SAFE (in small amounts):
✔️ Plain cooked chicken or turkey
✔️ Carrots
✔️ Green beans

⚠️ AVOID:
❌ Chocolate (all types!)
❌ Hot cross buns (contain raisins = toxic)
❌ Onions, garlic, stuffing
❌ Fatty scraps (can trigger pancreatitis)

If in doubt, don’t share it.

🚨 Urgent appeal! We’ve had a very rare case come in today. This ‘feline’ (named Ash) has developed some incredible reptilian-like scales, and we’re even noticing a little... smoking issue? Does anyone have experience with scale-rot or fire-gland supplements? Please let us know if you have any expertise—we are in uncharted territory here! 🔥🐈

Myth or Fact? Let’s bust a common pet myth!

🐶 “Dogs eat grass because they’re sick”

❌ MYTH
Most dogs eat grass simply because they enjoy it or out of boredom, it’s actually very normal behaviour!

✔️ While occasional grass eating is harmless, frequent vomiting, lethargy, or loss of appetite could signal something more serious.

Not sure what’s normal for your pet? We’re always here to help.

Easter is coming… but is your home pet-safe? 🐶🐱

With Easter coming next week, we’re seeing more seasonal hazards that can be dangerous for pets. Here are a few to watch out for 👇

🚫 Chocolate – Even small amounts can be toxic, especially dark chocolate
🌸 Spring flowers – Lilies (for cats!) and daffodils can be harmful
🍬 Xylitol – Found in sugar-free sweets and gum, extremely dangerous for dogs
🧺 Easter grass & decorations – Can cause blockages if swallowed

✅ Top tip: Keep treats and decorations well out of reach, and remind guests not to feed your pets anything “just for fun.”

If you’re ever unsure, it’s always better to check with your vet. More information on our website 🔗

Dental health is about more than just fresh breath,it can have a serious impact on your pet’s overall health. 🦷

Untreated dental disease can lead to pain, infection, and even affect vital organs like the heart and kidneys.

Here are 3 signs your pet may have dental disease:

🔸 Bad breath – it’s not “normal dog breath”! A strong smell can be one of the first signs of a problem
🔸 Difficulty eating or dropping food – this could mean sore or painful teeth
🔸 Red or bleeding gums – a clear sign of inflammation or infection

If you’ve noticed any of these, it’s worth getting your pet checked. Prevention is key so regular dental checks, brushing, and appropriate chews can make a huge difference!

Adder warning! ⚠️

The sun has finally come out, and the springtime wildlife is starting to wake up. This does include adders, which are the only venomous snakes in the UK.

We have had 2 cases of dogs being bitten by adders within the last week, so we strongly advise everyone to be extra careful on walks, especially in areas with long grass.

If you suspect your dog has been bitten by an adder, please stop the walk immediately as any exercise can exacerbate symptoms, and contact us as soon as possible! 📞

Is your pet ready for spring? 🐾

As the days get longer and brighter, it’s the perfect time to give your pet a little seasonal check-in:
✔️ Flea & tick prevention up to date
✔️ Vaccinations & boosters checked
✔️ Worming routine on track
✔️ Garden hazards cleared (watch out for toxic plants like daffodils!)
✔️ Grooming refreshed for the warmer weather

A little prep now can keep your pet happy, healthy, and enjoying the season safely 💚

If you’re unsure about anything, our team at Fishguard Vets is always here to help. Head to our website now 🔗

🐄🌱 Farms going into spring should be checking their animals body condition after winter ❄️

Winter can be tough on livestock, and early spring is a good time to check how your animals have come through the colder months.

Regular body condition scoring helps you spot animals that may need extra nutrition or closer monitoring.

Things to look out for:
✔ Weight loss or poor body condition
✔ Pregnant animals needing extra energy before lambing or calving
✔ Access to good quality forage as grass growth begins

Keeping a close eye on body condition now can help improve productivity and prevent health issues later in the season.

If you’re unsure about body condition scoring or would like advice for your herd or flock, our team is always happy to help.

Mother’s Day isn’t just for mums of humans… pet mums count too. 🐾

Every day we see the love, care, and dedication that pet mums give! From early morning walks to worrying when their pet isn’t feeling well. Your pets might have paws instead of feet, but the love is just the same.

With Mother’s Day coming up, many homes will have chocolates and flowers around, so here are a couple of quick reminders to keep your pets safe:

🍫 Chocolate is toxic to dogs, even in small amounts. Keep boxes, wrappers, and treats well out of reach.

🌸 Lilies are extremely toxic to cats. Even small exposures, like licking pollen or drinking the water from a vase, can cause serious illness.

We hope all the amazing pet mums out there feel appreciated this Mother’s Day. Thank you for taking such wonderful care of your furry family members. 💚
