Hart Health Partnership GP Noticeboard

Hart Health Partnership GP Noticeboard Hart Health Partnership is the merged Fleet GP practices of Fleet Medical Centre & Branksomewood Road

"It is with excitement that Fleet Medical Centre and Branksomewood Healthcare Centre proudly announce that they will be merging as of 1st April 2023. It is a big piece of work to merge our 2 practices and we are keen to do this to protect and preserve the provision of healthcare services in this part of Fleet by creating stability, recruitment and training options for the future. We already work closely together as member practices of Fleet Primary Care Network and we have good relationships with the other 2 local surgeries -Richmond Surgery and Crondall New Surgery- who are supportive of our merger."

After what feels like the longest January on record, we can finally say hello to February — and with it, introduce the next member of our Surgery’s Patient Participation Group (PPG): Sue Vincent 🌟

Sue and her family have lived locally since 1998, when she and her husband relocated from London. With a background in Biology and an early career in the pharmaceutical sector, Sue has always had a strong interest in healthcare. Alongside Gill, she has been a member of our PPG for the past three years.

Recently retired, Sue spent 18 years working for local charity Hart Voluntary Action, where she built extensive knowledge of local voluntary groups and services that may be of real benefit to our patients.

Many of you will recognise Sue from our vaccination clinics, where she’s often seen in her yellow hi-vis. You may also spot her out and about in her role as a Community First Responder for South East Coast Ambulance Service🚑

This simple test can detect bowel cancer at an early stage.

Today NHS England has announced that it will be increasing the sensitivity of bowel cancer screening to help save more lives.

They estimate that this change will detect an extra 600 bowel cancers early, when treatment is more likely to be successful, each year in England.

We hope to see more developments on early diagnosis such as this in the upcoming National Cancer Plan for England, which is expected to be launched next month.

If you're aged 50 to 74 and registered with a GP, you'll automatically get a bowel cancer screening kit (FIT kit) through the post every two years. But it’s important to remember that cancer screening is for people without symptoms. If you notice any changes that are not normal for you, or you spot something unusual in the loo, don’t ignore it - speak to your doctor.

Regular exercise plays a vital role in maintaining both physical and mental health, and it does not have to mean spending hours in the gym. Being active can help reduce the risk of long-term conditions, improve mood and boost energy levels, while also supporting independence as we age.

Examples of regular exercise include:
🚴‍♂️ Brisk walking or cycling to improve heart health
💪 Strength exercises like carrying shopping or resistance training to build muscle
🧘‍♀️Balance and flexibility activities such as yoga or stretching to reduce falls and stiffness
💙 Low-impact activities like swimming or chair-based exercises, especially later in life

Staying active in ways you enjoy makes it easier to keep exercise as part of everyday life.

Did you know that cervical cancer is almost wholly preventable?
This Cervical Cancer Prevention Week we are helping to raise awareness that nearly all cervical cancers are caused by high-risk strains of HPV.
HPV is a common virus that 80% of people will get at some point during their lives, sometimes it can lead to the development of six types of cancer. HPV vaccination and cervical screening together offer the best protection against cervical cancer developing.
The Eve Appeal has lots of information on preventing cervical cancer, answers to your FAQs and tips to help make appointments easier.

Officers investigating an assault at Fleet Medical Centre have made an arrest.

We were called to a report that a man had entered the centre on Church Road and behaved in a threatening way towards staff at around 3.40pm on 19 January.

A plastic screen was then smashed, and a female staff member was injured. She was taken to hospital to receive treatment.

Officers launched an investigation and made an arrest last night (21 January).

A 62-year-old man from Fleet was arrested on suspicion of:

- Common assault of an emergency worker
- Criminal damage to property – value under £5,000
- Use threatening / abusive / insulting words / behaviour to cause harassment / alarm / distress

He has been bailed with conditions, to allow for further enquiries to be carried out.
