What is Therapy? - I first encountered counselling at 14-years-old, then again at 19, and psychotherapy in my 30s. I currently see a therapist most weeks. With therapy so commonplace in my life, I am often taken aback by questions like “What is Counselling?”, “What is Psychotherapy?”, or “What is therapy?”. I’d like to help demystify these terms so they become more readily recognised as transformative services that can support people through life’s ups and downs.

Yesterday was a big day for me. I sat my final viva for my MSc in Gestalt Psychotherapy ... and PASSED 😃. I've graduated from Psychotherapeutic Counsellor to Psychotherapist.

Over 2,000 hours of training, client work, supervision, personal therapy, CPD, 5 years of study, 2 house moves, 3 jobs, setting up my own business, and not to mention the training with my therapy dog ... it's been a long journey. There's going to be some emotions to process over the next few days so time for a week off to enjoy my accomplishment and the lovely empty head feeling now I'm done 🌟 ... before I decide what's next 😁

Thanks to for supporting me throughout this journey.

DAY 100: What a great day to finish this year's . A lovely study spot, clear of distractions, with food and dog walks being taken care of by friends and family so I can focus on the final stages of my dissertation distraction free. This year's posts have all been about raising awareness of the importance of caring for your mental health. The themes for me have mainly been about creating change by getting out of my comfort zone, supported by maintaining balance and routine ... one step at a time. Today is no different and the little steps have paid off as I finish my first full draft of a dissertation which is the penultimate product of a process that has changed my life, relationships and my experience of my mental health. Don't forget to stop, take in the view and celebrate where you are. 🌟

DAY 99: Back to where I started my this time, for the 9th year, your most liked post, Day 1.

A 100 days of encouraging more conversations, more of the time, about Mental Health ... the good, the bad, and the ugly! Normalising talking about our mental health (we all have it afterall), so we can move away from the stigma and towards being really aware of how we are - it's then we can experience life differently.

It's worked for me. When I started 8 years ago I never imagined how I'd be different from enjoying climbing the HR ladder in a corporate career, to loving my work as a counsellor, a coach, and someone who brings all my professional skills to my work with organisations to help people develop their own authentic style - feeling/experiencing/knowing little more of themselves through our work.

I also notice how I am different as a result of this last 100 days, leaning towards wanting to share all my emotions next year, for an even more open conversation rather than just where my happy comes from ... let's wait and see.

I find my happy today reflecting on my difference, how I've changed, how I've become more of who I am, rather than who I thought others wanted me to be. It's not an easy journey but it's worth it.

What difference do you enjoy about you now vs you 8 years ago?

DAY 97 and 98: Reflecting on your favourite posts from days 30 and 50 - 'Getting out of my comfort zone' and 'finding balance in the ups and downs'. If there were two posts to perfectly describe the last few years for me these would be it! Getting out of our comfort zone is uncomfortable, but it's also magic, it's where learning and growth happens. And when we are out of our comfort zone, it's important to also find balance, a way of countering the stress, remembering what really matters and grounding ourselves in the support which helps us keep moving forward. ❤️

Which of your posts best describe your experience over the last few years?

DAY 96: Reflecting back over the last 100 days and your favourite posts. Just 63 days ago I started preparing for my 5th and final year of MSc studies in Gestalt Psychotherapy. With just 4 weeks to go until I submit my dissertation (my final assessed written work) it seems fitting to acknowledge again the massive support I've had, and continue to receive from Metanoia Institute 🌟.

DAY 93-95: Discombobulated ... [googles] ... yep, that's the word for how im feeling. Like when you've come off a roller coaster that's made your tummy turn and it's not quite settled. A constant state for me at the moment whilst I work through the final stages of my dissertation consolidating 5 years of study and the last 12 months of client work, personal development and research into just 15,000 words ... yep, discombobulated is the right word 🤪. So what's making me happy? Finding ground in what's familiar, the simple things in my daily routine, particularly getting outside for fresh air, a walk, and my favourite coffee. Keeping it simple.

What's your favourite part of your daily routine?

DAY 89 & 90: Visiting this beautiful space specifically for people wanting to have some self reflection time as part of their personal development. Having a space without the day to day distractions has supported me to make great progress with my dissertation this weekend, and meant that time at home has been restful. If you'd like a space for coaching, self-reflection or other personal development, there's lots of books and resources to help you and such a comfy setting with a bridal path for walking too 🌟.
