My Podcast Episode is Here!

It was such a pleasure to be invited to speak about yoga as a form of therapy on Your Empowered Self by Tricia Woolfrey. I really enjoyed having the chance to discuss all the different aspects of yoga and how it can support people to manage stress, illnnes and overall health.

Although I may have got the order of the 8 limbs incorrect (ooops), I was impressed at how much my ADHD brain could remember off the top of my head! 😆

Click the link to take you to my episode on Tricia's YouTube Channel and you'll see a free yoga practice and a free handout on the 8 limbs (in the correct order!) Whilst you're there, you could take a look at some of her other episodes - lots of wonderful content!

If you give it a listen, I'd love to hear your thoughts or reflections.

Most of us are familiar with yoga and how it can be beneficial as a stress management tool (I have another video this in this series). But not many people k...

Therapeutic Art & Creativity

This is slightly different to 'Art Therapy' in that I am not an art therapist who solely uses the arts. I integrate the use of creative expression into the whole therapeutic process. That might look like movement one day or music, working with clay, or sandtrays, drawing or painting or even writing poetry another.

What I love about using the arts is there is no end goal. No perfect picture we are trying to get to. Just an open invitation to use tangible (and abstract) things to help us connect and delve into our inner experiences.

Sometimes just seeing something (an object, a colour, material etc) that resonates with your felt sense can unlock the ability to befriend that experience, sensation, or emotion. It is a way to process emotions without having to find the words or make sense of it logically. We can just be with it...

For me, it's a beautiful thing to witness as a therapist and part of my work that I'm enjoying seeing unfold before me. Who knows where it will take me!

Get in touch if I can support you or your child with the therapeutic arts.

What do I offer and how can you work with me?

As an ADHDer, I like to do many different things! I have lots of interests - plenty that never lasted more than a few weeks so won't be showing up on this page, but plenty that did. People have said for years - wow you offer a lot of different things Nicole! And that always worried me, but now I understand the way my brain works, I've realised having multiple offerings is one of my strengths....
So this week, I will be posting about the various ways in which I work, so you can get to know how I might be able to support you or your child. My hope is to explain more clearly what I do so it feels easier to decide! Clarity and conciseness is not one of my strengths so it'll be across separate posts!☺️

First up, I'll explain how you can work with the creative arts in your sessions... and colourful, playful balls too if you wish!

Reaching for something more...

Sometimes, I know I need more.
More rest
More nutritious food
More fun
More planning
More organisation
But that can leave me feeling less than; like what I'm already doing is never enough. I used to spend a lot of time being critical of myself, and thinking about how to be better - be more - and also less (less talkative, inquisitive, excitable, loving). It was EXHAUSTING.
I know so many of my clients feel this way too. They are often late or undiagnosed neurodivergent women or men who feel they have never quite got it 'right' - this life thing. Learning about our neurodivergence, our inner critic, patterns and self-beliefs can be challenging, yet often, over time, there is a real sense of ease that comes with it.
A lightness can be felt.
Then, all of a sudden, it feels easier to rest more, eat more nutritiously, have fun, plan and organise things! Why is that?!
Self-acceptance is why (mostly), and a felt sense of safety that comes from knowing you're doing your best and were never meant to do it all; or be any different.
Who you are, just as you are, is OK, maybe even great.
Therapy, yoga, long voice notes to friends, books, podcasts - these can all help with that first step to self-acceptance.
You are just as deserving of this as everyone else. So will you reach for more too - but instead, for something that frees you instead of brings you down?

M A Y

This sunshine is perfectly timed for Spring and a sense of renewal. I've been behind the scenes working hard on my own renewal; I've been in my wintering phase recuperating and pondering, feeling into - and opting out - and ultimately trying to discover what life can look like for me now.

Last year I experienced a particularly challenging time in my personal life which I knew needed my attention in a way I hadn't ever offered it. I have now given myself the time I needed and the difference feels quite remarkable.

I am not the same person I was when I was last here, and that's OK because I am ‘more’ now. More self-compassionate, self-aware, forgiving, regulated, unmasked and much more free. Discovering my neurodivergence, navigating burnout and then grief was a lot (to put it lightly) but it has given me more than I could have imagined.

And now? Well, I bring all of this to my work as an integrative therapist. Whether we connect online in therapy, on the yoga mat, or through touch during massage, know that I have hope for you, just as I have had for myself, that the light will reveal itself once again.

"Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people." ~ Carl Jung

Now there is light again, I look forward to seeing how things unfold for me, for you, for us, and 'our luminous minds' ✨

To get in touch, or read more about what I do, head to my website: www.ourluminousminds.com… and stay tuned for massage diploma updates coming very soon! Excited!

P.S do we still use hashtags on socials!? 😆

My Story

Hello! I’m Nicole, a qualified yoga & meditation teacher for children, teens and adults; specialising in additional needs, mental health and trauma. I was introduced to the benefits of yoga at a young age as way to support me whilst suffering from a chronic illness. I am so grateful for the impact yoga had on my life and since, my recovery to full health.

During my recovery, I became fascinated with the mind-body connection, positive psychology, and how all these aspects impact health and well-being. I believe yoga and meditation are powerful techniques that we can all use to guide us towards greater health. I mostly work 1-1 in therapeutic yoga sessions that are tailored to the individual and their needs. I enjoy working with the person to find the most effective techniques; whether that be for developmental differences, mental health issues or chronic illness.

I also love running meditation and yoga courses, and seeing the group become stronger in their personal practices. I’m always amazed (but also not at the same time) at how much yoga can bring people together, strengthen their minds and be transformational in so many ways. I have seen beautiful shifts with all ages from about 2 – 60 so far. Yoga really is for everybody – that is every single type of body.

My greatest hope is that we all find something to enhance our natural resilience, health and happiness so we can experience the most out of life.
