Healthy Naturally

Healthy Naturally Learn how to be healthy naturally with the right food and mind set The aim of the 28-day programme, is to put you on the path to achieving optimum health.

As we age we may begin to suffer from numerous disorders which affect our physical and brain health; feeling tired all the time, lacking mental clarity, struggling to get a good nights sleep, suffering from stiff and achy joints, feeling overwhelmed and anxious, feeling overweight and sluggish, increasing digestive issues, just to name a few. If I were to work with you, my aim is to give you back your mental clarity, energy, slim waistline, pain-free joints and zest for life. To achieve this, I have designed the following programmes to offer structure and support:

1. 28 day programme
If I were to work with you, after completing a lifestyle questionnaire and food diary, we would meet and devise a personalised treatment programme which would span a minimum of 28 days. During the programme, I will be in touch with you every day (via video-link, email or telephone), ensuring that you make the necessary changes to your diet and lifestyle and that you stay motivated and on track. Watch my free masterclass to find out more https://andreabremnernutrition.co.uk/freemasterclass/

2. Maintenance programme
When you have completed the 28-day programme, we meet again online to discuss your next steps. As you are probably well aware, that these first 28 days are just the start of the process of improving your health and moving you towards optimum health. When you finish the 28 days, I can guarantee that you will feel so good that you will want to continue the good work. We therefore move onto a maintenance programme which ensures that your health continues to improve beyond 28 days. My passion for nutrition and lifestyle change were born out of my desire to heal myself, my family and my closest friends. My mission is to pass on my knowledge to you, giving you the tools required to become your own healer. Health problems that can be addressed include:
• Tiredness and chronic fatigue
• Obesity
• Stress, anxiety or depression
• Digestive discomfort or disorders
• Poor concentration and memory
• Headaches
• Menstruation issues
• Insomnia
• Skin issues
• Hormonal imbalances
• Muscle and joint pain
• Autoimmune conditions
• High blood pressure and high cholesterol
• Frequent infections and poor immune system
• Candida and other fungal infections

In an analysis of tea bags, researchers found that those sealed in plastic release billions of plastic particles with every cup that’s brewed.

Tea is an ancient beverage, recognized for the positive impact it has on health and the important role it plays in cultures around the world. There are significant health benefits to drinking tea, so it would be wise to continue the habit, while substituting tea bags for loose leaf tea. Or buy tea in bags from a reputable company that doesn’t use plastic or bleach in their manufacturing.

I grew mint this year and drank it freshly picked every. It tasted so sweet and delicious. Before winter arrived I picked a load and dried it for my tea over the winter.

Naturally healthy and back to source – best way to be 😊

What You Need to Know About Melatonin Other Than It is Good For Sleep

Melatonin is one of the most important antioxidant molecules and certainly the most ancient, as it has been part of biological life for over 3 billion years. It's present in prokaryotes, which are bacteria, and even in plants.

In the human body melatonin not only has independent direct antioxidant effects on its own, but it also stimulates the synthesis of glutathione and other important antioxidants like superoxide dismutase and catalase.

Mitochondrial melatonin production is one of the reasons why regular sun exposure is so crucial. The near-infrared spectrum, when hitting the skin, trigger the generation of melatonin in your mitochondria.

Considering melatonin’s function within the mitochondria, and the fact that mitochondrial dysfunction is a hallmark of most chronic disease, it makes sense that melatonin would be helpful against a number of different diseases.

Getting your daily dose naturally through sunlight is best but in the winter months I take melatonin half an hour before I go to sleep and it helps me to peacefully and awake feeling refreshed.

My cucumber plant is like a triffid. The plant that keeps on growing and giving. To the point where it grew out of the window in the roof of my greenhouse and sprouted a cucumber outside 😆

What to do with so many cucumbers? Well, apart from giving them away a good friend of mine gave me her Mum's cucumber pickle recipe and so far I have made 5 huge jars! That should keep me going into the winter.

I have also taken to roasting them in coconut oil, garlic, paprika, salt and pepper together with my courgettes and marrows. And why not? Nice side dish to go with roasted meat or fish - yum!

My tomato plants are still giving me tonnes of fruit. I planted 2 in the greenhouse, which have gone crazy (looks like a jungle in there!), and another 8 outside in pots (germinated more seeds than I thought I could!) So what to do with a load of tomatoes!?!

Tomatoes are perfect for a paleo-keto lifestyle as they are under 5% carbohydrate. In fact, they are one of the few fruits that are under 5%, the others being cucumber, rhubarb and avocados (actually a fruit!)

I use a tomato base for so many things in my kitchen. Not only good for salads but used in curries, casseroles, chillies, bolognaise, etc. etc.. As a result, I go through tin after tin of organic chopped tomatoes. So now I have been harvesting my home-growns, chopping them, roasting them in coconut oil, salt and pepper for 15 minutes and then freezing in 400g bags. Gonna save me a fortune in tins let alone reducing environmental tinned waste!

An article in The Telegraph today discusses the power of turmeric and its positive effects on indigestion, notably acid reflux. It states; more effective than omeprazole on excess acid symptoms. The article refers to a recent study published in the British Medical Journal. For anyone interested links to both the article and the study are below.

The active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin which is known to have powerful anti-inflammatory effects. Taken with black pepper (which has an active ingredient called piperine) makes it even more effective. If a high dose is required for painful conditions, then taken in capsule form is probably best, or for general health and well-being just use daily in cooking.

I’d like to grow this root in my garden but think it needs a warmer climate. Still, I may give it a try in the greenhouse next summer.

What to do with a whopping marrow?

I learnt this recipe from my sister-in-law many years ago. It was wonderful to revisit it.

It is now marrow season in my garden and I am getting loads and they are huge! They are perfect for a ketogenic diet as they are very low in carb and super nutritious and tasty.

When I make a spaghetti bolognaise I will cook spaghetti for the family but will normally just do some cauliflower or broccoli rice for myself and my husband. However now with marrow season, I can spice it up and swop out the rice for a large slice of marrow.

Chop it in half lengthways and scoop out the seeds. Spread a little melted coconut oil onto the flesh of the marrow and then roast in oven for 20 minutes until softish. Then fill with your bolognaise, sprinkle over some raw cheese, and pop back in the oven for another 15 minutes. Delish 😋

Ketones For Fuel

Your body can use three types of fuel: Carbohydrates (glucose), fats (ketones) and proteins. Of these, ketones burn the cleanest. They create far fewer harmful free radicals when burned and do not rely on insulin.

When you're generating ketones and your blood ketone levels go up, the ketone enters the cell and without a rise in insulin, the cells are efficiently fuelled.

With today's western diet, most people never reach a state of fat burning and ketosis. They’re constantly feeding their bodies carbohydrates, and in this high-insulin state, they simply cannot burn fat. Over time, it wears out your metabolic machinery, resulting in insulin resistance and weight gain.

Yes, that is my bicep 😁 ! It used to be a lot bigger in my heyday of gymnastics and athletics, but now I am determined to maintain what I have and if possible increase my strength as I age.

It is rarely too late to start resistance training. Sarcopenia — age-related muscle loss — threatens a healthy lifespan. Skeletal muscle not only manages physical activity, but also plays a major role in metabolism, circulation and cognition.

Skeletal muscle acts as endocrine organ, releasing hormones into the bloodstream, thereby regulating the function of other organs. Declining muscle strength and reduced physical activity with advancing age is thought to be a primary driver of insulin resistance and a contributing factor for metabolic dysfunction.

Three key lifestyle strategies that I am following to enable me to get stronger with age are (1) time restricted eating in combination with (2) a cyclical ketogenic diet and (3) strength training whilst fasting.

Our Story

Do you recognise in yourself lack of energy, sleepless nights, joint pain, brain fog, digestive discomfort, heart arrhythmia and/or anxiety. They may all be symptoms of an autoimmune disorder, a digestive condition and/or menopause. They can be managed by lifetime medication, or you can consider an alternative like I did.

I’m Andrea Bremner and this was me before I discovered a way to challenge my mindset, re-work my nutrition and change my life permanently for the better. I discovered the connection between the gut and the brain and the positive impact the former has over the latter. I’m using my knowledge and experience to help other women, like me, re-find a happy and fulfilling life.

I am a qualified Nutritional Therapist and NLP Master Coach. With knowledge of the gut, the brain and their inter-relationship I am uniquely placed to help women seeking a healthier and happier outlook.

This page content will promote gut/brain health and educate about the connection between the two as well as the body, to help re-connect women with positive living.
