MY LUNCH
Do you believe the adage “You are what you eat?”
Since becoming perimenopausal, I do.
Our bodies change dramatically during menopause and eating the rainbow has never been more important 🌈
A well-balanced diet ensures we adjust to hormonal changes whilst helping us maintain bone, brain, heart & gut health.
It all sounds a bit boring - I like crisps and chocolate as much as the next woman (probably more!) and I do still eat them 😋 but I try to eat like this most of the time.
This salad was chucked together from what I had in the fridge 🥗
🌿Beetroot & radish are detoxifying foods and ensure the liver is functioning at optimum levels.
🌿Chickpeas, beetroot and asparagus are prebiotics. Apple cider vinegar in the dressing is a probiotic. Both are essential for a healthy gut and can help with menopausal symptoms such as mood swings and digestive issues.
🌿Eggs contain vitamin D, which helps absorb the right amount of calcium, vital for strong and healthy bones, particularly in menopause when bone density declines. Vitamin D is also needed for muscle mass and a healthy immune system.
🌿Eggs, nuts and seeds contain B Vitamins, which help manage stress, cognitive function and energy levels.
🌿Chickpeas & lettuce contain fibre which helps balance blood sugar levels.
🌿Lettuce also contains potassium, which is needed for cardiovascular health.
If you are unable to take HRT or choose not to, there is still so much you can do to help manage your symptoms. Even if you are taking HRT, approaching your menopause holistically and considering nutrition will have a huge impact.
I am no longer flat lining on a bed of irritability, tiredness and brain fog. My headaches and breast pain are less frequent. And I am more-or-less on top of the school admin, which is miraculous! 🤩
