Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)—a gentle, rhythmic massage technique—is one of the most commonly used approaches to support lymphatic function, ease swelling, and reduce discomfort. This technique relies on very light pressure and slow, repetitive movements to encourage lymphatic fluid flow, making it fundamentally different from deep tissue massage. MLD does not remove lipedema fat; instead, it helps improve fluid movement and may relieve the feelings of heaviness and swelling that often interfere with daily activities.
What You Need to Know
✔️ Gentle, rhythmic strokes — designed to support lymphatic flow without irritating sensitive tissue
✔️ Light pressure only — lipedema tissue is highly sensitive and does not tolerate strong pressure
✔️ Supports lymphatic flow — helps move stagnant fluid and reduce discomfort
❌ No deep tissue — deep pressure can stress superficial lymphatic vessels and worsen symptoms
❌ No aggressive kneading — harsh manipulation may trigger inflammation and pain
❌ No forcing the body into “release” — the body does not respond to force; progress comes through consistency and gentle techniques
