Mermaid beach took a battering this morning!

Winter storms reshape the coastline here every year - sometimes gently, sometimes dramatically.

This beach has held so many swims, and the wall breaking feels sad, but it’s also the wildness of the sea reminding us she’s alive, shifting and powerful.

Biggest Supermoon of the year - this Wednesday, 6:30pm at Mermaid Beach!

When:
Wednesday 5th November, 6:30pm
Where:
Mermaid Beach (west side near Mermaid Café)

What:
🔥 A fire under the full moon
🏊‍♀️ An optional swim for the adventurous - we’ll most likely head in just after 6:30pm!
✨ A relaxed, welcoming community that’s been growing strong for 5 years

It’s the beaver moon, and also Fireworks Night, so expect to see some extra light in the sky! It’s currently looking a bit windy, but we’ll put a msg on stories if it’s too windy for a fire.

What to bring:

It’s Full Moon and a Lunar Eclipse at Mermaid Beach, Folkestone. This Sunday! It will look like a ‘blood moon’, and will rise around 7:30pm! 😁 ☀️

As the moon rises it will already be in a total lunar eclipse! The next won’t be until August 2026.

Thank you to everyone who took part! We needed 100 swimmers a day and ended up with an amazing 525 swimmers in total!Because of your support, Sandgate can now apply for regular water quality testing - a big step for our community and all open water swimmers here.It’s so great to see so many swimmers now embracing sea swimming! Let’s keep building this incredible community 🌊
