✨NEW OSTEOPATH ✨

Please welcome our newest member to the NHC team, Lisa Howland.
Lisa will be in the Folkestone clinic on Thursday morning's and available for booking's from 4th December.

Lisa qualified with a First-Class Master’s degree from the European School of Osteopathy and she enjoys treating patients of all ages from just a few weeks old upwards.

Although Lisa’s formal qualification as an Osteopath came later in life, her fascination with the human body began in her twenties, following numerous falls from horses Osteopathic treatment played a vital role in her recovery, sparking an interest in the profession.

Lisa is friendly, empathetic, and committed to supporting her patients’ recovery. She takes the time to understand her patients’ goals and expectations, delivering holistic treatments through a blend of structural, cranial and visceral techniques.

Outside the clinic, Lisa enjoys spending time with her family, friends and animals. A passionate equestrian, she has competed in amateur British Show Jumping affiliated events and is continually exploring the connection between horse and rider. Incorporating Equine Osteopathy, to offer a fully integrated, holistic approach to both human and equine biomechanics.

SNAP 💢 CRACKLE 💢 POP - What's that sound⁉️

Synovial fluid of the joints consists of dissolvable gas particles that can be manipulated during an adjustment, producing sound.
During an osteopathic manipulation, it is the movement of these facet joints that causes the audible 'pop' or 'crack' you can hear. During the manipulation, the osteopath will focus a little pressure onto the appropriate facet joint. The manipulation may involve a little twist or thrust movement. Loosening the adhesions, or “freeing” the joint, allows for greater mobility and less pain.
People who may benefit from joint manipulation include those who have arthrofibrosis (build-up of scar tissue) on the elbow or knee joint after surgery or a break.

Did you know?

Anyone who suffers from chronic headache and/or migraine can benefit from a visit to the osteopath. In fact, the majority of headaches are found to be caused by musculoskeletal tension and/or postural issues and can be successfully treated by an osteopath.

There are over 200 different types of headaches, however there are three that are overwhelmingly the most common;

💢Tension-type headache (TTH)
This is by far the most common and affects 60–80% of the population. These headaches are associated with mental stress and / or postural tension. They are felt as tightening or pressure on both sides of your head.

💢Migraines
Migraines are the next most common headache, with an overall prevalence of 15%, although this is skewed with females being more than twice as likely as men to suffer. Whilst there are many causes of a migraine, they can be triggered from issues in the upper neck. Often, they affect one side of your head and can cause issues with sight or sound sensitivity. In extreme cases they may cause abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting.

💢Cervicogenic headaches (CGH)
Cervicogenic headaches occur when pain is referred from a specific source in the neck, up into the head. CGH symptoms often occur on one side of the neck or head, sometimes causing pain around the eyes. A CGH is a secondary headache, caused by a pre-existing physical or neurologic condition.
