Spending time near the sea isn’t just soothing. It’s scientifically linked to better mental and physical health.

A major systematic review published in Health Promotion International examined evidence from multiple studies on “blue space” (coastal, river, and lake environments). The authors found consistent benefits, including:

Reduced stress
Improved mood
Enhanced overall wellbeing
Support for mental health in targeted groups
Increased likelihood of gentle physical activity

This review is one of the most comprehensive academic analyses available on the health impacts of water-based environments.

I always find it satisfying to spend time in the forest but it is made even better when there is a chance to make something. Here is a video showing my process for making elder flutes.
Special thanks to Niamh for filming it for me.

Standing beneath the canopy of trees, it's easy to feel a sense of awe and wonder at the beauty and complexity of nature. As sunlight filters through the leaves, casting dancing shadows on the ground below. Looking up at the intricate network of branches and leaves, it is impossible not to be humbled by the undeniable power and resilience of these ancient giants. Remember to have gratitude for the gifts that nature provides us.
