Make a resolution that will really make an impact!

Our top resolutions:

1. Book a check up at the opticians. You should be going at least every 2 years to keep on top of vision changes and eye health. Can’t remember when you last went? Pop to our website and book your next appointment now!

2. Eating a healthy diet - a new year classic, but did you know that what you eat makes a difference to your eyes? A good diet can help with dry eyes, help prevent cataracts, help night vision and protect from light damage.

3. New specs! Well fitting glasses, that make you feel good, with the correct prescription can provide a big boost to your wellbeing. Book a free eyewear consultation if you’re in need of some stylish new frames for 2026.

4. Book the kid’s appointments - did you know that children don’t need to be able to read to have an eye test? We’ve got lots of tools to help us check vision!

5. Don’t put off eye health issues - sore, itchy and watery eyes can really get you down, book a free MECS appointment and get it checked.

🚘 Night driving getting tougher?

A quarter of drivers (25%) who find vehicle headlights too bright are driving less at night as a result, while 22% say they wish they could. (College of Optometrists)

If you wear glasses, an anti-reflective coating could help. AR coatings reduce distracting reflections from headlights and streetlights, letting more light through your lenses so vision stays sharper and glare feels softer.

It’s also important to wear the correct prescription when driving — especially at night. Regular sight tests make sure glasses are still doing the job they’re meant to.

If night driving has started to feel a bit more tiring or stressful for someone you care about, it might be worth a quiet check-in.

👋 Meet Sheema, one of our experienced Optometrists.

Sheema is accredited to carry out our Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS), as well as detailed eye examinations and contact lens appointments.

Alongside her work in practice, Sheema is an Assessor for the College of Optometrists and a visiting clinical tutor at City University.

She has also volunteered with Vision Aid Overseas, most recently on a project in Ethiopia. 🌍

We see a lot of the larger optician chains offer all kinds of deals for Black Friday, but the same as previous years, we won’t and here’s why:

- It doesn’t fit with our values. Black Friday is a global event that encourages pressured spending. We aim to provide a quality service for our local community, in a relaxed environment, with clear and consistent pricing, all year round. No pressure.

- We can’t afford it. Like many small businesses, the costs involved in running Eye Folk continue to increase, and we know you have felt the pinch too. So we offer different ways of paying - did you know you can spread the cost of your spectacles interest-free*? *ask our team for details.

- It’s tough on small businesses. Yes, it’s great to grab a bargain, and sometimes essential to shop around, but the many lovely independently run businesses in our town would love your support this Christmas.
