As a carer myself, I believe in quality care and fair treatment for care workers. Having worked in dementia care for 9 years as a carer and in carer support, I know only too well the need for more recognition, fair pay, decent training, and a safer working environment. But above all the need to feel supported heard and valued. Here are some of the messages iv received from carers, on social media
so far
" I work long hours with no breaks some days. When I need a day off, I feel terrible guilt letting down those I care for "
" There is no time in my life to make time for me. I work 12-hour shifts, sometimes 13/14 by the time I get home and then iv my own family to look after. I feel worn out a lot"
" Working through the pandemic was the hardest thing iv ever had to face"
" I worked for a care 28-bed care home, mostly double-handers with no proper training. I feel like I was thrown into the deep end and unfortunately, I sank. The stress was too much "
"I'm 100% for CCTV in care homes. Working with dementia and especially challenging behaviors can mean we are also vulnerable at times "
Is it any wonder so many carers are facing burnout. And so ( because I can't do this alone ) iv searched for a group of incredible people, who have a background in care and want to share their knowledge and passion for better conditions for carers with you. Carers " You are Enough"
