🗓 From September 2026, allergy safety will become a statutory requirement in childcare settings following the passing of Benedict’s Law.

👉 This means schools, nurseries and childcare providers will need to follow mandatory guidance on allergy awareness and management, not just treat it as best practice.

🔹 Settings will need clear processes in place to show they are managing allergy risks properly, including:

• staff training in allergy awareness
• recognising the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis
• knowing how to respond in an emergency
• using adrenaline auto-injectors and adrenaline nasal spray medication

Staff training will be a key part of this, helping ensure teams feel confident recognising symptoms quickly and responding appropriately.

In this 1.5 hour awareness class we’ll teach you:

✅ what allergies are and what are the common triggers
✅ the symptoms of a severe allergic reaction
✅ what to do if you suspect anaphylaxis
✅ how to administer life-saving medication (including AAIs and EUR Neffy nasal spray)
✅ CPR and defibrillation

Did you know?

⚠️ There has been a 336% increase in prescriptions for adrenaline auto-injector pens over the last 20 years.

And in the UK, anaphylaxis happens more often in schools than in any other setting outside the home.

🔹 If you work in a school and staff require up-to-date training please get in touch Lindsay@daisyfirstaid.com

👃 Nosebleeds can look scary, but most stop with simple first aid.

👃 Sit your child down and lean them slightly forward. Pinch the soft part of their nose and keep the pressure on for 10 minutes. If it’s still bleeding do this for another 10 minutes.

👃 While you’re doing this ask them to breathe through their mouth and spit out any blood. Try not to let go early to check it.

👃 If it is still bleeding after 20 minutes, keep pinching for another 10 minutes.

👃 Afterwards, for 24 hours, avoid nose picking, nose blowing, hot baths or showers, and warm drinks.

👃 Get medical help if it does not stop, the bleeding is heavy, they are struggling to breathe, feel weak or dizzy, or it happened after a head injury.

👃 See a GP if your child is under 2 or gets regular nosebleeds.

😮 Yes, you read that correctly. It’s pretty shocking isn’t it.

🔹 According to the Child Accident Prevention Trust one child under 5 years old is admitted to hospital every day after falling from a building.

🔹 With the weather finally warming up, windows are going to be opened it’s important to be vigilant.

🔹 Pre-school children are particularly at risk from falls and as their heads are proportionately larger than an adults they are most likely to land on their head which could cause them serious harm.

🔹 Window safety catches are easy to fix and can prevent a child from falling and being seriously injured.

🔹 Please share this with your parent friends to remind to fit window safety catches before summer arrives.

💔 Our hearts go out to the families, friends and communities affected by the tragic deaths in Kent.

🔹 News like this can feel incredibly worrying, especially for parents.

🔹 Knowing the signs and symptoms, staying informed and trusting your instincts really matter.

🔹 Meningitis can become serious very quickly and getting help early can make all the difference.

🔹 If something does not feel right, seek urgent medical advice straight away.

👧🏻As parents, we hold the incredible privilege of shaping the next generation of strong, kind and fearless women - one bedtime story, one conversation, one small act at a time.

❤️Every day, we have the opportunity to teach our children that their voices matter. To show our daughters that their worth isn’t tied to how ‘polite’ or ‘pretty’ they are, but to their courage, intelligence, and determination. To raise our sons to see women as equals, not as helpers or caretakers, but as leaders and change-makers.

🗣️ Confidence starts young. It starts with letting our girls take up space, speak their minds, and dream without limits. It starts with showing them that leadership isn’t just for men, that ‘bossy’ is just another word for ‘determined,’ and that they never have to shrink themselves to make others comfortable.

❗️ It also starts with challenging outdated norms. Teaching our kids that housework is for everyone, that emotions aren’t a ‘girl thing,’ and that strength comes in many forms.

👩🏽‍💼 Let’s raise a generation that that lifts women up instead of holding them back, and that sees equality not as an ideal, but as a reality we create together.

🤕 Why is crying after a bump to the head often reassuring?

👉 Because it usually means your child is conscious, responsive and breathing normally. Crying is a natural reaction to pain, shock and fright, and can be a good sign right after a bump.

⚠️ BUT keep watching them closely afterwards for at least 24 hours. If they display any of the following symptoms take them to A&E or call 999 immediately.

👉 If your baby or child has:
- Lost consciousness (even briefly)
- Difficulty staying awake or keeping their eyes open
- A fit (seizure)
- Fallen from a height more than 1 metre or 5 stairs
- Problems with their vision or hearing
- A black eye without direct injury to the eye
- Clear fluid coming from their ears or nose
- Bleeding from their ears or bruising behind their ears
- Numbness or weakness in part of their body
- Problems with walking, balance, understanding, speaking or writing
- Hit their head at speed, such as in a car crash, being hit by a car or bike or a diving accident
- A head wound with something inside it or a dent to the head
- Been crying more than usual (especially in babies and young children)
- Vomited since the injury
- Had a change in behaviour, like being more irritable, losing interest in things or being easily distracted (especially in children under 5)

😭 Crying can be reassuring in the moment, but it’s what happens next that really matters.

⚠️ If you ever suspect a child has swallowed a button battery (those small round coin-sized batteries found in toys, remotes or watches), it’s important to act IMMEDIATELY.

🔋These batteries can start reacting with body fluids and damage tissue within hours, and it should always be treated as a medical emergency.

🚑 Always call 999 or get straight to A&E if you even suspect a child may have ingested one.

🍯 While you’re on the way to hospital the guidance now is that if the child is over 12 months old, giving them 2 teaspoons of honey every 10 minutes (up to about 6 doses) may help slow the chemical reaction and protect the throat and oesophagus until medical care can be given.

➡️This is only recommended if it’s immediately available and shouldn’t delay getting emergency help.

‼️Important:Do NOT give honey to children under 1 year old due to the risk of infant botulism.Honey is a temporary measure only – it does not replace urgent medical assessment and treatment.

🔖 This is brand new guidance in the UK so please share this post with your parent friends to update them.
