One of two beautiful baskets I commissioned (Florence Hamer) to make for family members this Christmas. I supplied the antlers and she supplied the skill. I just love how they turned out.

This has been a really fun project over the last few weeks. The first I’ve made from start to finish. Using an off cut of Damasteel Damascus I’ve had for years. Definitely a long ways to go before I perfect my freehand grinding but such a satisfying thing to do. Massive thank you to Andrew for guiding me and allowing me to use his kit.

Robbed from the net. The subject often comes up and this image made me laugh.
We don’t strive to be the cheapest and never will. I want to make a reasonable living and pay my guys a reasonable day rate. To reflect their skills, the risks and hard work. There is always someone willing to work for less. It frustrates me when I get told someone has quoted the same job for a lot less than us. They are either cutting corners or completely under valuing our industry. What we do each week is notoriously hard on our bodies, machines and wallets. Why would anyone want to do that for minimum wage?

1/4 fallow buck butchered and packed ready for a customer.
Unarguably local wild meat is the most sustainable, ethical and ecologically sound meat source. Especially when taking into account the benefits to biodiversity that deer management brings.

Huge copper beech job today. Sadly this stunning tree was deemed at risk to the public and members of the church.
Well done for doing a thorough tree survey. Also big thanks to for stepping up at short notice to help out on this one, due to me contracting Covid 2 days before the job.

Found this big Signal crayfish in the stream in Forest Row. Definitely the biggest I’ve seen. A non-native and detrimental to the streams natural ecology. However despite looking quite fierce no threat to humans😬
