Prologue ...
Most of you know about Rumi and Leonie the beautiful collard dove couple who have been nesting in the huge front garden fir tree π²for a number of years.
Also how they are extremely precious and spend lots of time sharing their space with us all. Recently one of them flew over me and a tiny lilac grey feather πͺΆ literally floated down in to my hand π
Today Cubby and I were setting out for a walk and just as we got to the front gate we heard a thud on the path bricks. I turned round and right where we had just walked lay a huge semi fledged chick!!! Peddling its legs trying to get up. I ran across and gently picked it up (gender not yet known) and was surprised how heavy and robust it was.
The nest is way up high through thick pine branches so no way was anyone going to put the chick back in its nest.
There was no sign of Rumi or Leonie.
I rang the SSPCA and got a recorded message regarding types of wildlife emergencies ... basically directing me to call the vet.
Crown Vets, Fort William agreed to examine the feisty tot and I took independent advice, en route, from a wildlife expert who I greatly respect. There will be a fuller update in due course but the outcome is that the chick is not injured, will stay overnight at the vets, and tomorrow will travel to finish being reared at a specialist wildlife rescue π
I learnt today that it is a fact that collard doves and pigeons cannot care for their chick's on the ground, as blackbirds do.
I am absolutely thrilled that the wee tot will make it although sad for the parents who will be worried π
They were in the back garden earlier and I spoke with them about their beautiful chick being protected and safe. They sat listening - they are beautiful souls.
Before I left the vets I had a cuddle with the wee soul, shared Reiki and promised to keep in touch.
I cannot wait to follow the progress of this chick and am sponsoring them at the rescue centre π
More news will be shared in due course πππͺΆππͺΆππ
