There are simple ways that you can connect with nature & yourself, you can start by tuning into your senses. So often these days we aren't using our 5 senses, what with digital technology around us often only using just sight & sound.

In order for new neural pathways to form and hormones to be released such as dopamine we must connect to all our senses.

Observe the environment your in, sit down in one spot, notice what you see, what do you hear, what can you smell, taste or touch, be specific. Can you feel the air on your face, the texture of the ground your sitting or laying on.

Find one object of interest and draw it in your mind, follows its lines, curves and edges, or on paper, this helps you to pay attention out of your head & into the moment.

Nature becomes your teacher, you'll notice things you see become metaphors, I won't mention lots, you'll know when you notice. One for me is noticing tiny beautiful flowers pushing through solid concrete gaps in the harshest environments = quiet resilience.

Tending your garden or when your out in nature is also tending to your soul. Be curious about what is growing not only outside but also within.

Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” – Albert Einstein

“We were meant to explore this earth like children do, unhindered by fear, propelled by curiosity and a sense of discovery. Allow yourself to see the world through new eyes and know there are amazing adventures here for you.” – Laurel Bleadon Maffei

In a world where we are blinded by narratives on tv or social media which can really spiral anxiety or when we are going through tricky times we are often told to toughen up, all of these energies can make us hard and when we are too hard we shut off our capacity for connection.

So turn off the tv and step into softness, the best place to relax your racing mind, to fully express yourself is in nature. Softness is allowing yourself to be open and vulnerable.

Don't mistake softness for weakness. Like the trees your roots are strong, you can bend and sway softly but not break.

Softness is moments of just "being" and nature is the best place to start.

How can nature and mindfulness help your child? 🌱

Nature-inspired mindfulness is a simple but powerful way to help kids find their calm, focus their energy, and feel more connected to the world around them.

Here's how it helps:

🌿Reduces Stress: Spending time in nature naturally lowers stress hormones, helping children feel more relaxed and peaceful.

🍀Boosts Focus: From watching a busy bee to listening for a bird's song, nature helps children practice paying attention, which improves their concentration.

🌿Builds Resilience: The natural world is full of metaphors for life. Learning to be "strong like a tree" or "calm like the wind" gives kids tools to navigate their feelings.

🍀Fosters Empathy: Observing the interconnectedness of plants and animals helps children develop a deeper sense of care and respect for all living things.

🌻Try this simple activity: Take a "mindful walk" with your child. Encourage them to notice five things they can see, four things they can feel, three things they can hear, two things they can smell, and one thing they can taste (like a safe berry or a mint leaf).

You'll be amazed at how a little time outside can make a big difference inside.🪻🌷

Some days when the weight of the world is heavy the best thing i can do is go into nature, its like returning home.

The noise, the rush, the chatter quietens, the sound of the wind encourages me to breathe again, a river or calm sea encourages me to be soft and still, to go with the flow, the sound of birdsong reminds me to listen to what is important, a tree reminds me to be strong and resilient and the flight of butterflies reminds me to let go of the weight I'm holding just a little.

If you are in a season of transition, healing, growth or change know that nature doesn't hurry you, it doesn't judge, it allows you to breathe and to connect, your not alone, the earth always knows how to hold you. 💚

Did you know,, Walking on the beach can offer several benefits, some of which are linked to ions in the air. The first thing my dad wanted to do after a near death experience was to go to the beach because it made him feel alive, my stepdad swam in the sea because it gave him a rush, first thing I do if I'm overwhelmed is go to the beach. We are drawn to water as it helps us to relax but what we don't see is the ions all around us.

Negative Ions:
* Mood Enhancement: The crashing waves and sea breeze generate negative ions, which some studies suggest can increase serotonin levels, potentially leading to improved mood and reduced stress and anxiety.
* Increased Energy and Alertness: Inhaling negative ions may increase oxygen flow to the brain, resulting in higher alertness and mental energy.
* Air Purification: Negative ions can help remove pollutants like dust, pollen, and mold spores from the air.

So next time you need to feel calmer try heading to the beach ⛱️

Hot Chocolate Breathing: A Fun and Calming Technique for Kids

The Hot Chocolate Breathing technique is a simple and effective way to teach children deep breathing, helping them to calm down and manage their emotions.

* Imagine: Ask your child to imagine they are holding a warm mug of hot chocolate in their hands.

* Smell: Have them take a deep breath in through their nose, pretending to smell the delicious aroma of the hot chocolate.( or even better have a real delicious hot chocolate! )

* Blow: Then, have them slowly exhale through their mouth, as if they are gently blowing on the hot chocolate to cool it down.

* Repeat: Encourage them to repeat this process several times, focusing on the sensation of the warm mug in their hands and the smell of the chocolate.

* Calming: Deep breathing helps to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes relaxation and reduces stress.

* Focus: The imagery of the hot chocolate and the act of blowing can help children to focus their attention and distract them from worries or anxieties.

* Emotional regulation: This technique can be used to help children manage difficult emotions like anger, frustration, or sadness.

* Fun and engaging: The hot chocolate theme makes the technique fun and engaging for children, encouraging them to participate and practice it regularly.

Throwing stones into water..

When you focus on picking up a stone, feeling its weight and texture, and then aiming and throwing it, you engage both your mind and body. This physical activity can help to:

* Release pent-up energy: The act of throwing can be a cathartic way to release built-up stress and tension.

* Improve focus and concentration: The act of aiming and throwing requires focus and concentration, which can help to clear your mind and improve mental clarity.

* Connect with nature: Being in nature has been shown to have numerous benefits for mental health. The combination of physical activity and natural surroundings can be particularly powerful.

* Promote mindfulness: The act of throwing stones can be a meditative experience, allowing you to focus on the present moment and let go of some worries.
