The Healthy Homes team will be back at the practice tomorrow, Wednesday 4th February, from midday to 4pm.

Come and speak to the team for free impartial advice about keeping your home warm and dry. You can also find out about grants, quick wins and support available to help you, if needed.

The team are making a real difference to people's lives. For example, last year they were able to support a Frome resident who was living in a cold home with an outdated boiler, no hot water, and mounting debt due to unresolved solar panel issues. Thanks to the support the Healthy Homes offered, she has successfully resolved the dispute with the solar panel provider, secured grant funding for a heat pump and seen improvements in her finances, her health and energy efficiency.

Do pop along for a chat.

Healthy Homes is part of Greenhealthyfrome , a lottery-funded partnership between Frome Medical Practice, Frome Town Council and Edventure. Find out more at https://greenhealthyfrome.org/

What's on in February?

It's time to share the dates of one off, monthly and weekly sessions that we have taking place in February.

Most of these sessions are drop in, but a few need you to book on please. Look out for the ** so you know when booking is needed.

We've one new session to let you know more about. On Tuesday evenings, from 6pm to 7pm, we are holding a drop in for patients who are well and who'd like to discuss reducing the medication they are taking for depression. No appointment needed. Just turn up at the practice and head to the Live Well room (glass room on left hand side in main reception area). If another patient is already in the room you will be seen as soon as possible.

Have you heard about setting up proxy access on the NHS App? We explain what this means and how you can set it up in this post. Please share with family and friends who you think might find this information helpful.

What is it?

Proxy access is an additional feature of the NHS App that more patients are now using. Sometimes referred to as a linked profile, proxy access allows trusted friends or loved ones to support those who need help with using the services provided within the NHS App, whether it’s a young child, elderly parent or friend with complex needs.

Is it secure?

Proxy access is available when both the patient and their proxy are registered with us at Frome Medical Practice. This ensures continuity of care and compliance with NHS security standards. Before access is granted, certain identity and security checks must be completed to protect patient confidentiality and ensure the correct procedures are followed

How can we set up proxy access?

To request proxy access, patients can apply directly through their NHS App by selecting the ‘Manage Health Services for Others’ option on the home screen. The team from Frome Medical Practice will then get in touch to complete the process.

Healthy ageing in a changing climate - free event

As climate change increasingly reshapes how we live, age and stay healthy, we need to understand how this will affect older people now and in the future; and learn how older people can support their own health while contributing to plans for the healthy ageing of those who follow.

This meeting will be an opportunity for Frome’s older residents to find out how they can become involved in climate action and what they can do to age healthily while the climate changes.

📅 Saturday 31st January
🕕 2pm to 4:30pm
📍The Assembly Rooms, Christchurch Street West (behind the Memorial Theatre), BA11 1EB
➡ For further information, please contact Miranda Pickersgill at fromeclimateseniors@gmail.com

There will be two keynote presentations and speakers. The first will be on the subject of “How can older people take effective climate action? What is the role of older people and how can climate action be made more age-inclusive?” The speaker will be Mary Stevens - Experiments Co-Lead at Friends of the Earth.

The second will be on the subject of “The impacts of climate change on the health of older people. What can we do to protect ourselves and increase our resilience to extreme weather events and their effects?”. The speaker will be Charlotte Carson - Community Sustainability Lead at Frome Medical Practice.

The meeting is open to everyone; entry is free.

Today is Stroke Prevention Day 2026 and we're encouraging patients to monitor their blood pressure. That's because high blood pressure is the biggest risk factor for stroke.

If you don't have a blood pressure monitor at home, we have one near our main information desk at the practice which you are welcome to use next time you're in the practice. You can also borrow a blood pressure monitor from Frome Library.

High blood pressure is the cause of around half of all strokes. It can lead to stroke in different ways. Certain genetic and lifestyle factors, as well as health conditions, can increase your risk of high blood pressure.

If you have a high reading, you can help lower it by making some simple lifestyle changes.

Everyday choices like smoking or va**ng, poor diet, drinking a lot of alcohol and lack of exercise can all contribute to high blood pressure. Here are some simple steps you can take to help lower your blood pressure and reduce your stroke risk.

🚭 Stop smoking or va**ng.
🍷 Drink less than 14 units of alcohol a week, spread over at least three days.
🍽 Eat a healthy, balanced diet.
🚶‍♀️ Take regular exercise – around 20 minutes of moderate movement a day.
