International Womens Day sparks a lot of thoughts within me, my words haven’t yet found their final arrangement.
It’s a complex and deeply important topic, it’s also the most straightforward and often ignored and accepted as is. Many communities live in a world that isn’t yet set up for them, females are one of the groups. Half the population.
I work with women, I study and research an integral element of the female reproductive system which is entrenched in stigmatisation. The more I learn the more I see is how much there is still to do. Slowly, surely.
I shared a post a few years ago on IWD that said ‘strong women, may we know them, may we be them, may we raise them’. This year I offer
may women be anything they want to be, may they be without objectification, may they be without judgement, may they have true respect and equality.
Today I will sit with those who wish to share their experiences of their first menstrual period for the podcast series - an inclusive invitation open to every-body with experience of this (because, importantly not every women bleeds and not everyone who bleeds is a woman) and I can’t think of a better way to witness the web of connection we share and most likely will recognise the distance we still have to go to improve things.
Woman, for me, it’s in my blood and it matters.
