Yesterday was a special one for Dorothy, as we celebrated her truly incredible 104th birthday. Born on 1st February 1922, our birthday lady has seen the world change in ways most of us can only imagine.

Back in 1922, the BBC was just starting out, the first Austin Seven cars were hitting British roads, and the news was filled with the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. It is a privilege to share in such a milestone. Happy Birthday from everyone at Catherine House!

Getting stuck into mixing a bowl, writing a letter, or settling into a game of bowls provides a connection to the activities that can help express who we are. 🖍 These moments ensure everyone remains an active part of the daily life of the home. By focusing on these familiar roles, we ensure every day is shaped by a clear sense of identity and personal contribution.

Yesterday we spent a lovely afternoon marking Burns Night together. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿The dining room was looking great, fully decorated with Scottish flags, and it was great to see family members joining in and holding flags too. We sat down for a traditional lunch of haggis, and we always make sure there’s a vegetarian option on the menu so everyone feels included!

We followed the haggis with raspberries and cream, then gathered again later for vanilla cake and a simpler option of cauliflower cheese soup and jacket potatoes. Yum!

A few updates from around the home lately whether we are out to Southwick Country Park , or staying cozy inside, It’s always good to see everyone staying involved with the things they enjoy. 💛

Kerry has been spending time over the chess board and getting out for coffee, which is a big part of his routine and helps him stay included in the local community. Alan was also in the kitchen helping with the baking, it's those familiar tasks that really provide a sense of purpose.

We also had our Maintenence Team Member Gary pop in to see Ruby for her 90th birthday. These kinds of visits mean so much for staying connected to friends. Barbara also made sure to get some fresh air and comfort out in the garden.

Every day is about these intentional moments and making sure everyone feels a part of what’s going on.

A home only feels right when it’s properly looked after. Our domestic team are in every day, quietly making sure things stay clean and tidy, but the door is always open for family members to get involved too.

When Bea asked if there was anything she could do to help, she didn't hesitate to grab a duster. She’s been busy in the hallways, making sure all the pictures are looking their best.
