With these hot August days in mind, be aware of not only sunburn, but heat exhaustion or heat stroke; keep hydrated and stay in the shade.

Nearly through July, August nearly upon us, and many of us take a holiday before looking at things again in earnest in September.

We are therefore only running one First Aid course in August, and we'll be back in September with our regular schedule.

Feel free to look up or course dates on our website for your planning, but for now, enjoy the rest of the summer! 🏖️

How important is First Aid? At the site of an accident or injury, there may be passers by, but the likelihood of there being a paramedic is slim.

It will therefore be down to those present to a) call for help, and b) help the casualty before the arrival of professional medical help.

If they are trained in First Aid, their help is what could make all the difference!

A cold front came through in the small hours and it feels decidedly chilly this morning, but we are nevertheless coming into the summer months and allergies may manifest themselves - bee stings, pollen, grass...

The Emergency First Aid at Work course yesterday was really good, and all had a great day. Lovely to see such enthusiasm!

Interesting conversation about changes in tourniquet guidelines, where further investigation showed that some organisations had adopted the guidelines as far back as 2017, whereas some are only adopting them now. Our own formal guidance is recent.

Our First Aid syllabus was recently updated very slightly to reflect some new protocols from the European Resuscitation Council, so we're looking forward to meeting our new students on the Emergency First Aid at Work course tomorrow here in Frome - always nice to be at the Cheese and Grain, and I think lunch will be outside on the terrace in this lovely weather!
