The end of January always feels like that final push before spring, doesn't it?💐We’re keeping things nice and steady here, plenty of hot tea, a few good books, and making sure everyone is feeling at ease. There’s a lot of reassurance in just sticking to our usual routines while the weather does its thing outside.

We've said goodbye to the wonderful Jacqui! 🥲

Last Friday was Jacqui’s final day before heading into retirement, and while we’re so happy for her, she leaves big shoes to fill. She’s been with us for just under 5 years!

Jacqui had a way of making sure everyone felt included, no matter how tough the day was. You can see the impact she’s had by looking after the Christmas donations for the Fair Frome Food Bank (read more on our website). “It’s something that’s very close to my heart,” Jacqui said. “I’ve seen how much of a difference food banks make and how hard the volunteer’s work. With my retirement coming up in January, it felt important to make sure we did this collection again this year.”

We’re going to miss Jacqui's energy in the building and the comfort she brought to the job. Jacqui, thanks for everything!

Spring is already here! as we had a visit from Twinnies Petting Farm , and seeing our family members hold these spring lambs was a beautiful reminder of how much these moments of connection matter.

For those on a Dementia journey, holding a lamb isn't just a "cute" activity, it’s an intentional way to find a sense of purpose. The weight and warmth of the animals help everyone feel grounded and included in the moment.

Between the visiting lambs and our own resident guinea pigs, these animals are a huge part of how we encourage purposeful engagement here. 🐑🐹

Recently at Frome Nursing Home, Janet found a sense of purpose gathering food for the guinea pigs, while Cilla felt truly included celebrating her birthday with the team. For those on a Dementia journey, finding comfort in a sentimental object, like Wendy with her teddy, helps the present moment feel more grounded. Every day is about these intentional moments of connection, from George’s focus on draughts to Pauline enjoying a familiar meal. 🏡

Finding the wind 🪁There is a steady focus in the room when we work with our hands. Today, constructing kites provided a meaningful way to maintain dexterity and share a sense of purpose.

These moments are intentional, using craft as a tool for connection and ensuring every family member feels included in the rhythm of the day. It’s about the comfort found in a familiar task and the satisfaction of a job well done.

Now, we just wait for the right breeze.

A new lick of purple nail varnish, wearing old rings that mean a lot to you, and a quiet moment with a pet. We nurture these interactions because they provide genuine comfort. No performance, just the intentional stuff that makes a house feel like a home in Frome. 🥰

January sees us sharing a laugh with someone you know well, taking time over a game that keeps the mind active, or sitting calmly with an animal on your lap, these moments are part of everyday life here. Nothing is rushed, and there’s no expectation to join in unless it feels right. 💌

Choice matters. So does familiarity. Games that support focus and coordination, gentle companionship that brings comfort, and time spent one to one all help people feel settled and at ease.

Life here moves at different paces, just like it does at home. And everyone is free to spend their day in a way that feels comfortable for them.
