Pilates is not the equipment, the choreography or the exercise.
How the movement is performed, attention to the detail, the breath, how muscles are recruited and how the joints are aligned, how it is taught and prescribed makes it Pilates.
Be aware: there are many types of training out there, online, weekend, add ons to a fitness qualification, short ones run by fitness companies and then there are comprehensive Pilates trainings which adhere to association guidelines involving at a start 500 and many up to 1500+ hours for comprehenaive qualification. Where exams are taken, papers are written, observations and practice teaching are logged . Physical conditions and injuries are studied and what to do and most importantly what a client shouldn’t do are learned . Where continuing education and first aid is a requirement . Where safety is paramount, precision, breath and body alignment all really matter. Pilates does make a difference, it creates positive changes and heals bodies when done correctly . Otherwise it’s just exercise and not Pilates.
