One of the big reasons I love working on balance in my own yoga practice is how much easier it makes other movements- like hiking on uneven terrain- more accessible for my body. When I was in my twenties, I could not stand on one leg- now tree pose is genuinely one of my favourites. It does not need to be perfect; this one was far from it. But it was fun! (Pic taken on Bessie’s Hill, a settlement & fort in D&G). It also calms my mind: it is hard to think about other things when you are trying to balance! Many clients wonder how an hour went by when we are working on this. There are common areas of the brain which help us to deal with our physical and emotional balance.
If you want to discover how yoga can support your balance & functional mobility, try my Yoga for Better Balance & Mobility classes- Mon 6pm (full), Wed & Thurs 5.30pm.
I’ll also be running a workshop on balance on the first weekend in November- available to book now at www.thriveyogagala.com
