We’re really proud to announce our new pilot offering specialised therapy to women veterans for trauma they may have experienced from their time serving in our armed forces.

Thanks to funding from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, we’ve launched the Rebuild Project, which is tailored to the unique needs of women veterans - recognising the intersections of military culture, gender-based experiences, and the stigma that surrounds both trauma and substance use within veteran communities.

Laura Tapp, a Royal Air Force veteran and former client of WithYou, said:

“The military taught me discipline and resilience, but it also normalised heavy drinking. Nights in the bar were part of the culture, and for me, alcohol became more than just a social lubricant; it became a way of coping, of quieting the restlessness in my mind.”

The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust's CEO, Anna Wright, said: "For some veterans adjusting to civilian life can feel disorienting and stripped of structure, identity and purpose.

“Drugs or alcohol can be seen as a way to cope with physical and psychological trauma linked to military service, and that's where our Fulfilling Futures funding programme aims to help. We're so pleased to be funding projects such as this one delivered by WithYou, supporting women with the specialist help they need to move forward with their lives."

Rebuild is part of our dedicated Armed Forces Community Programme, which is the first programme by a drug and alcohol provider to receive the Gold Award from the Ministry of Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.

Our launch comes after the government announced a brand new veterans strategy, and a new forum for women veterans which they say will provide a direct channel for raising issues, and sharing their experiences on the topics that affect them.

Today, the Princess of Wales has spoken out about how “addiction is not a choice, or a personal failing", and called for us to meet people's experiences of drug and alcohol use with "empathy and support".

We couldn’t agree more with the Princess of Wales' call to end the stigma related to struggling with alcohol or drugs. She reminds us that "it is not our place to judge or criticise" and that simple acts like listening are "crucial in breaking down the misunderstandings".

This is what we have always stood for. Whether someone wants to cut down, stay safe, or stop completely – we are WithYou, providing support that meets people where they are.

As the Princess of Wales says, recovery "begins with a conversation." Let's keep that conversation going 💙

"Ketamine was this escapism, it was escapism from reality.”

Tom faced organ failure at just 25 years old after spending £50,000 on ketamine.

A previous client of our We Are With You North Lincolnshire service, Tom bravely shares his experience of how support from WithYou and partner Double Impact Services changed his life.

His story highlights the devastating impact of regular ketamine use - which has increased significantly across the UK in recent years.

It was great to see BBC Morning Live feature the work of our service in We Are With You Redcar & Cleveland, to help children and young people make informed choices around drugs and alcohol 🙌

Since the footage was filmed, we've seen an increase in use of ketamine across the country, and WithYou in Redcar and Cleveland as part of the THRIVE partnership are taking action. They're delivering awareness sessions about the drug at local colleges and schools, and they've just established a link with a local hospital to ensure people using ketamine are referred to WithYou or a partner drug and alcohol service where they can get help. The team is doing great work making a difference through education and care to prevent long term damage to physical and mental health.
