Two stars in our shop.
Of course the real star here is our wonderful Kay Milner. A stalwart of our shop and Garstang community.
Kay has forgotten more things about natural health than I’ve ever been able to learn.
She is an expert, has a wonderful sense of humour, a kind heart and conducts herself with grace and a quiet strength.
Dear Kay continues to work every Thursday at our shop and her spirit is ingrained in the very fabric of our little shop.
Everyone, quite rightly, loves and respects her. Long may she grace our shop floor.

I cherish this certificate.

If you look closely, you’ll see the faint signature of my then 96-year-old inspiration, John Wernham, a remarkable osteopath who continued to practise and lecture into his 100th year.

He was taught by J.M. Littlejohn, who brought osteopathy to Britain in 1917…
And Littlejohn was taught by the founder himself, A.T. Still, in Kirksville, Missouri.

So I suppose that makes me a fourth-generation osteopath.

Sometimes I feel those who came before me are watching, and it’s my responsibility to carry on their ideas and skills.

That might explain why I can be a bit… forthright with my patients 😄
I do tend to lecture, on health, habits, and where things might be going wrong.

My wife and family would say: “Nick’s on his high horse again.”

It all comes from a place of passion and enthusiasm… though I know it can be a bit blunt at times.

So to all my wonderful patients, past, present, and future,
thank you for your patience, your trust, and your good humour.

Even when you ignore my advice, I still appreciate you more than you know.

Osteopathy has given me an incredible life, and I’m deeply grateful for it.

A heartfelt thank you to every one of our customers

Running an independent shop on the high street is not easy these days.

Times have changed. Convenience often wins over conversation, and many people understandably try to save a few pennies wherever they can. But sometimes the real cost of things isn’t always obvious — especially when postage, packaging and the loss of local shops are factored in.

Here in our little health food shop we try to do something slightly different.

Between us we have many years of training and experience, and we’re always happy to share that knowledge freely. If someone comes in looking for help with their health, we will always take the time to listen and offer guidance. That personal connection is something the internet simply can’t provide.

But small independent shops face many challenges — rising energy prices, increasing costs and the reality that sometimes people will ask for advice in person and then buy the product online.

One customer once said to me quite cheerfully, “Thanks for the advice, I’ll buy it online!”

Another told me, “You must be making a fortune!”

The truth is rather different. I don’t take a wage from the shop at all. Thankfully I earn my living as an osteopath, which allows us to keep the shop going.

We don’t run this shop to make fortunes. We run it because we believe places like this still matter.

What we truly value are the people who walk through the door — the conversations, the shared laughter, sometimes even the difficult moments when someone needs a little kindness and support.

Garstang is a wonderful community, and our small shops are part of what gives the town its character and warmth. When you choose to shop locally, you’re not just buying a product — you’re helping to keep that community spirit alive.

So to everyone who continues to support us and the other independent shops in Garstang, we want to say a sincere thank you.

We’ll always be here for a chat, a laugh, a bit of advice — and perhaps even the occasional cry.

That’s what a real community is for.

ISN'T GARSTANG WONDERFUL...

I love working in Garstang.

I've been here over twenty years building my osteopathic clinic and in all that time this lovely market town has felt like a home from home.

I walk down the street and say, "Good morning" and, "Hello" to friendly familiar faces and even people I have never met before.

We have a lovely community and I never take this for granted.

Many of the shop keepers who bring their own qualities and independent shops to town are my friends.

To all of you I say thank you for welcoming me. Thank you for supporting me, our staff and our little shop.
