We often assume shoulder pain in tennis is simply a rotator cuff problem — but is it really that straightforward? 🎾
📊 Research shows that in any given week, nearly 42% of competitive tennis players report shoulder pain significant enough to limit their activity. PubMed Central
Yet most play through it — and the shoulder rarely gets properly assessed.
📈 What we see clinically mirrors this:

Stiff thoracic spine forcing the shoulder to compensate
Weak kinetic chain overloading the rotator cuff
Poor load management between match days

The real question is — are players fixing the cause, or just waiting for it to settle until next time? 🤔
At GX Physio, we look beyond the painful shoulder. Lasting results come from understanding why it broke down in the first place.

Most athletes think kinesiology tape is supporting their muscles. It is not. It is gently lifting your skin and what happens underneath is actually pretty fascinating.

When expert physios apply K-tape, it creates a tiny lift in your skin. That lift takes pressure off the tissue underneath, improves blood flow, and helps your body clear inflammation faster.
It also stimulates the sensory receptors just under your skin, giving your brain clearer information about how your joint is moving. Better information means better movement and more confidence while you are still recovering.
The direction, tension, and placement all matter far more than most people realise. It is not just slap it on and hope for the best.

Wondering how we use K-tape with our athletes? Slide into our DMs and we will walk you through it. 🎾

🧊 Frozen shoulder making everyday life unbearable?

This ONE simple move can start unlocking your shoulder TODAY. 👇
✅ Reduces stiffness
✅ Gently restores range of movement
✅ Can be done at home — no equipment needed
How to do it:
Stand beside a table, lean forward slightly, and let your affected arm hang freely. Gently swing it forward and back — let gravity do the work, not your muscles.
Start with 2–3 minutes, twice daily and build from there.

🎾 Tennis players often mistake shoulder impingement for a rotator cuff injury — and vice versa. Both can flare up during serves and overhead shots, but they’re not the same thing, and treating the wrong one can keep you off the court longer than necessary.

Knowing the difference is the first step to getting the right treatment and getting back to your game faster. 💪

If your shoulder aches every time you serve or reach up, your rotator cuff muscles likely aren't controlling the movement as they should.
The arm bone and shoulder blade stop working as a team, and that's when the pain kicks in.

Why is your shoulder still sore after every match?

Because band exercises only fix part of the problem.
Studies show that tennis players who added shoulder blade control and upper back mobility to their rehab recovered significantly faster than those who stuck to bands alone. And when you consider that a single serve puts enormous force through your shoulder, it makes sense why bands on their own just aren't enough.

Your shoulder is a team player — it needs your upper back, your shoulder blade, and your muscles all working together. Bands only train one member of that team.
The fix isn't complicated, it just needs to be complete.

Most tennis players skip their shoulder warm-up and wonder why they lose power in their serve or end up injured.

Your shoulder takes a beating every time you play, so it's important to get it ready before you hit the court.

Every serve puts enormous strain on your rotator cuff and shoulder joint. Over time, this leads to impingement, tendon tears, and chronic instability—especially if you're not preparing your body properly.

But here's the thing: most shoulder injuries in racket sports are completely preventable.
The right warm-up routine, strengthening exercises, and early intervention can keep you playing pain-free for years.

Ignore the warning signs? You're risking months on the sideline.

Most running injuries aren't bad luck—they're preventable. Yet we see the same mistakes time and again: ramping up mileage too quickly, ignoring niggles, skipping rest days, and treating warm-ups as optional.
Here's the thing: training smart beats training hard every time. Your body needs time to adapt, rest days aren't laziness, and that tight IT band you've been ignoring? It won't sort itself out.
A few simple shifts can keep you on the road:

Build gradually (yes, even when you feel great)
Mix in cross-training to stay resilient
Get a Running MOT to catch issues early
Listen when your body speaks up

Don't wait until you're injured to take prevention seriously. Let's make sure you're ready for race day.
