The BuDS Trustees, staff and volunteers wish everyone a very Happy Christmas.

"Into this climate of fear and apprehension, Christmas enters,
Streaming lights of joy, ringing bells of hope
And singing carols of forgiveness high up in the bright air.
The world is encouraged to come away from rancor,
Come the way of friendship" - Maya Angelou, 2005

BuDS wants to say a huge thank you to players of The National Lottery, for their massive contribution to good causes across the UK. We have been lucky enough to receive funding in 2020 and 2021 from The National Lottery. This has enabled us to expand and continue our projects supporting disabled people in Buckinghamshire.

Are you feeling lonely or stressed at home? Need a friendly chat with someone who understands? The BuDS BuDDies are here to help!

BuDDies are BuDS volunteers who will call you regularly for a chat about anything you like. The calls are not therapy or counselling, just friendly conversation. You can talk about things that are troubling you, or just have a social chat. We will try to match you with a volunteer that suits your needs and the calls can be as often or as infrequent as you like.

Calls can be on the telephone, or by any online messaging system (eg Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp), or by secure video using Teams (we will set this up for you). If you are a BSL user, we can match you with another BSL user for video calls.

If anything comes up in your call where you need extra information or help, your BuDDy will do their best to point you to somewhere that can help. All BuDDies have been police checked and safeguarded and your confidentiality is taken very seriously.

Anyone in Bucks with any sort of disability or long-term health condition can use this free service.

To find out more about BuDS BuDDies or to register your interest, please email us on buddies@buds.org.uk or call us on 01494 211179 and we will be in touch with you soon.

It’s befriending week! And here at BuDDies we will be posting throughout the week about ‘everything befriending’ using the hashtag .

BuDS executive trustee Ann was involved with the development of the BuDDies project and has shared some of her thoughts on what befriending is to her.

If being a volunteer befriender sounds like something you would be interested in, please contact volunteering@buds.org.uk for more information.

It’s befriending week! And here at BuDDies we will be posting throughout the week about ‘everything befriending’ using the hashtag .

Figures show that the levels of loneliness in great Britain have increased since spring 2020, with 5.0% of people (about 2.6 million adults) saying that they have felt lonely “often” or “always” (ONS). The pandemic has caused many disabled people to become socially isolated as a result of shielding or self-isolation.

We believe that befriending is more important than ever, just a 30 minute weekly phone call or video chat with a friendly face can provide a lonely person with support, confidence, friendship, and hope.

If supporting socially isolated and lonely disabled people is something you would like to know more about, please contact volunteering@buds.org.uk for more information.

Being a volunteer befriender has many perks, and can create many oppertunities. Our volunteer befrienders think one of the best things about being a BuDDy is being a part of our warm and supportive community.

Many of our volunteers love befriending because it has enabled them to meet new people and become part of the amazing BuDS family.

If joining our vibrant and diverse community of befriending volunteers is something you would like to know more about, please contact volunteering@buds.org.uk for more information.

It’s befriending week! And here at BuDDies we will be posting throughout the week about ‘everything befriending’ using the hashtag .

Volunteering as a befriender can be hugely rewarding and has many benefits, such as the opportunity to gain new knowledge and skills, exploring your future options and making a real difference to someone’s life. Our volunteers BuDDies have access to training, support, and a community of likeminded people. Many of our volunteer BuDDies have formed professional working relationships through volunteering with us and we have supported our volunteer BuDDies to reach their personal goals, whether that be work experience, developing communication skills or meeting new people. Becoming a volunteer befriender can be immensely rewarding, but don’t take our word for it! Zahra is one of our volunteer BuDDies, so take a look at what she has to say. If you think you have what it takes to become a volunteer BuDDy and you would like more information on the role, please contact volunteering@buds.org.uk for more information.
