I'll be honest… I've seen some interesting nail cutting techniques from patients recently and it got me thinking, trimming your nails sounds simple, but there's definitely a right way to do it. So here's a little reminder!

First things first, soften before you snip! ✂️ The best time to trim your nails is straight after a bath or shower. Softened nails are so much easier to cut and far less likely to split or snag.

Ensure you cut your toenails straight across and resist the urge to round the corners! Curved cuts are one of the most common causes of ingrown nails and trust me, you want to avoid those! 😬 A gentle file afterwards will smooth any rough edges and stop them catching on socks or bedding.

If yourself or a loved one is living with diabetes, this one's important 💙

Diabetes can cause a condition called neuropathy, where the nerves in your feet become damaged over time, reducing sensation. This means that blisters, corns or ulcers can develop without you even feeling them, and when things go unnoticed, small problems can quickly become bigger ones.

Here's what to keep an eye on:
• Blisters or sores that appear without an obvious cause
• Corns or hard skin that are growing or changing
• Any cuts or wounds that are slow to heal
• Redness, swelling or changes in skin temperature

The good news? Catching these things early makes a huge difference. A regular foot check means nothing gets missed and you can stay one step ahead (pardon the pun!) 😅

Nail tightness and discomfort? Let’s talk about it…
Do you have a niggling nail that seems to press into the side (the nail fold) and cause discomfort?

Has your nail become more curved over time, making it tricky to cut? Or maybe you’re forever filing, adjusting or poking around 😬 at your hallux (big toenail) just to keep it comfortable?

If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not alone and we can help. As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure, and one of the ways we can relieve nail tightness is with the Ruck Blue Light System.

It’s a simple, gentle treatment designed to help realign nail growth.

Here’s how it works:
A small band of Blue Light gel is applied to the nail and cured under a UV lamp. Once set, it stays in place and helps the nail grow with less curvature… which means less pressure, less discomfort and no more constant “DIY toe maintenance.”

A few benefits:
• You can still wear nail polish
• The brace stays on as the nail grows
• It helps prevent the nail shape from worsening
• Most importantly, it can stop that tight, uncomfortable feeling

If you think this might help you,get in touch! We’d be happy to provide advice, more information and availability.

The treatment is inexpensive, and the brace can be applied in just one appointment.

Happy toes incoming. 💖👣

If your autumn walks have suddenly come with a side of foot pain, your wellies (or footwear) might be to blame. 🍂🐾

Plantar Fasciitis (also known as heel pain syndrome) is a common condition caused by irritation of the band of tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot, from your ball to heel. This is often thanks to unsupportive footwear or a sudden change in what you’re wearing.

And while wellies are great for puddles and the very wet weather we’re having, they’re not so great for support! If you’ve swapped your trainers for boots this season, and now find your heels aching in the morning or after long walks, this could be why.

A few gentle tips:
- Try wearing supportive insoles or arch supports in your wellies
- Do a few light stretches before getting out of bed or heading out
- Rest when you can… your feet deserve it!

Your Feet Deserve Extra Care As You Age! 👵👴
As we grow older, our feet carry more than just our weight—they support our independence, balance, and quality of life. As we age, proper foot care isn’t just comfort—it's essential for mobility, safety, and managing health conditions like:
• Diabetes – Regular checks help prevent infections and detect problems early.• Arthritis – Gentle stretching and supportive footwear can ease pain and reduce stiffness.• Balance Issues – Trimming toenails, treating calluses, and wearing the right shoes can reduce fall risk.
Helpful Tips for Healthy Feet:
1. Inspect daily – Look for blisters, cuts, or color changes.
2. Keep feet clean and moisturised – But avoid cream between the toes.
3. Wear proper shoes – Supportive, non-slip shoes can make a world of difference.
4. Stay active – Light exercises help with circulation and strength.
5. See a foot health practitioner regularly – Especially if you have diabetes or chronic pain.

Better foot care = Better mobility, fewer falls, and more independence.

Top 3 Tips for Healthy Feet This Summer:
1. Stay Hydrated & Moisturised – Warm weather can dry out your skin. Keep your feet hydrated with a good foot specific moisturiser to prevent cracking and calluses.
2. Protect From the Sun – Yes, your feet need sunscreen too! Apply SPF to prevent burns, especially on the tops of your feet.

👣 I often get asked if I do reflexology as part of my treatments and people are very curious as to what it actually is.

So here goes a very basic explanation! Reflexology is a therapeutic method where pressure is applied to specific points on the feet, believed to correspond to specific parts of the body. It can help reduce stress, improve circulation, and promote overall well-being.

🌟 **Benefits of Reflexology:**
1. **Stress Relief:** Reduces tension and promotes relaxation.
2. **Improved Circulation:** Enhances blood flow and detoxification.
3. **Pain Reduction:** Eases discomfort in various parts of the body.
4. **Better Sleep:** Encourages deeper, more restful sleep.

⭐️Reflexology Steps for Anxiety Relief:
1. Find a Quiet Space: Sit comfortably in a peaceful environment.
2. Warm-Up: Gently massage your entire foot to stimulate blood flow.
3. Pressure Point: Locate the point on your foot just below the ball, in the center. This corresponds to the solar plexus, a key area for stress relief.
4. Apply Pressure: Using your thumb, apply firm but gentle pressure to this point for 1-2 minutes while taking deep breaths.
5. Toe Massage: Gently pull and twist each toe to release tension.

Enjoy the calming effects of reflexology at home! 🦶💆‍♀️ If you’re curious I’d definitely recommend going to get a treatment (or 5!) from a qualified therapist. It is a wonderfully relaxing treatment! And as we know, you can tell a lot about someone’s health from their feet so it can often be a good measure of general health with a side of relaxation thrown in!

Have you ever had a reflexology treatment?
