Ever wondered what actually happens in a Singing Mamas group, how it's helpful and why everyone should sing (even those 'you don't want to hear me sing' people? Charlotte Howard has written a research paper -
"Unlike baby-focused groups, Singing Mamas is explicitly mother-centred. Babies are welcome, but the focus is on the woman, not the child. In a culture that often demands mothers be selfless to the point of invisibility, this reversal is quietly radical.
“It’s not about being a great singer,” one participant told me, “It’s about showing up as you are.”
In the sessions, there’s no pressure to talk - or to be okay. Women sit in a circle, learning simple, beautiful songs by ear. The singing is interspersed with tea, cake, and informal conversation. This is where the magic happens: women begin to share. Not in a structured “therapy” way, but in the messy, human way that real support is built - over laughter, tears, and shared silence."
