MCH musculoskeletal physiotherapy has been an established physiotherapy team for many years since evolving from Medway PCT. Since our move to the purpose built clinic at MCH House in November 2013 our team continues to grow in variety and quality. We provide NHS care and have begun offering private classes which, as a social enterprise, gets reinvested into improving our services. This page aims t

o get more information to our patients, our future patients and offering advice to prevent injuries. In our service we have over 20 skilled clinicians ranging from newly qualified Physiotherapists to 20+ years clinical experience. We have a structured learning programme to help us share and learn new research and topics on condition management. We also are involved with research like audits to improve our service and clinical trials with Universities like Southampton. Treatments offered:
- Soft tissue techniques- like massage, myo-fascial release and trigger point therapy
- Manual therapy including manipulation when appropriate.
- Acupuncture (90% of our physiotherapists are trained by BMAS and AACP)
- Electrotherapy including therapeutic ultrasound and Shock-wave therapy.
- Exercise therapy including exercise classes
- Physiotherapist-led Pilates
- Independent Prescribing

Planks.

Planks are a common exercise used to help improve core strength and endurance. It's a well known exercise but often executed incorrectly. You should feel your stomach tighten and even some shaking. If you feel it in your back, this means you are not engaging the core and likely arching your back. Why not have a look at the link for advice.

This video will explain and demonstrate how to perform a half plank and full plank exercise. Presented by Tom Skinner and Jack Broady.

Hip or Buttock pain?

strengthening your Gluteal muscles is key but so is avoiding compressive positions such as crossing your legs, standing with your weight on one leg or sitting in low chairs. Give this exercise a try to strengthen your muscles. If you don't have a football, a folded pillow or two works just as well.

This video will explain and demonstrate how to perform a hip abductor strengthening exercise. Presented by Tom Skinner and Jack Broady.

Knee pain during squats?
Squats are a great exercise to build strength in your legs, however, knee pain can be aggravated. Ways to improve this would be to make sure your weight is over your heels or having something under your heel. standing up from a chair without using your hands is a good way to get to grips with the movement. Goblet squats are also a good way to keep your weight back. See the link below for tips on this.
