This week, a couple of our residents from Fern Brook Lodge enjoyed a truly special day out at the local Men’s Farm at Madjeston Milk Station Madjeston Animal Park 🌿🐑

From the moment we arrived, the warm and welcoming team made everyone feel right at home. Our residents loved reconnecting with nature, spending time with the animals, getting involved with a bit of farm work, and chatting with the wonderful volunteers who keep everything running.

There was plenty of laughter, fresh air, and those simple moments that mean so much 💚

A big thank you to everyone at Madjeston Animal Park for such a memorable visit—we can’t wait to come back!

There’s something so beautifully nostalgic about primroses, they really do feel like nature’s gentle reminder that the earth is waking up again 🌼

At Fern Brook Gardening Club, we spent time reminiscing about our favourite flowers, and it was clear that these choices are about so much more than colour or scent. They carry memories of a grandmother’s rose bush, the calming smell of lavender in a childhood garden, and moments that stay with us for years.

The ladies had a wonderful time planting their favourite plants, sharing stories, laughter, and a love for gardening that continues to grow 💚🌿

A Beautiful Mother’s Day Celebration at Fern Brook Lodge 💐

Sunday afternoon at Fern Brook Lodge was a truly heart-warming celebration filled with gratitude, laughter, and joy. Residents and guests came together to enjoy our annual Afternoon Cream Tea, surrounded by the lovely scent of fresh blooms.

Each resident received a beautiful posy, adding an extra special touch to the day. The atmosphere was made even more delightful by the lively sounds of The Two Hats Band, who provided the perfect soundtrack for a memorable afternoon.

A wonderful time was had by all as we celebrated the incredible mothers in our community 💖

A day trip to Poole Museum made for a genuinely lovely outing, giving our residents the chance to enjoy both fascinating local history and some refreshing sea air.

The museum offered such a warm and welcoming atmosphere, making it easy to explore the galleries at a relaxed pace. Each section revealed something new about Poole’s past, from its early beginnings to its days as a bustling port. It was wonderful to see residents sharing memories, spotting familiar landmarks, and reflecting on how much the town has changed over time.

After soaking up the history, we took a stroll along Poole Quay and treated ourselves to classic fish and chips by the water. There’s something special about enjoying good food with a sea view, plenty of smiles, laughter, and a few happy seagulls nearby!

A perfect blend of heritage, fresh air, and seaside tradition. 🌊✨

🏴 A truly unforgettable day at Fern Brook Lodge 💙

Dorothy, a proud Scot living at our Gillingham care home, described it as “the best day of my life” after being surprised with a very special Scottish piping performance.

Lyndon Wall from Ringwood Pipe Band arrived in full traditional dress and treated Dorothy to a selection of much-loved tunes, including Scotland the Brave and Auld Lang Syne. The music brought back cherished memories of her homeland — a place that, as Dorothy says, “is in my blood. I will always be a proud Scot.”

The visit was arranged through our ‘Make a Wish’ initiative, which encourages residents to share the hobbies, passions and traditions they once loved. Our team then works to make those wishes a reality, helping residents reconnect with the people, places and moments that mean the most to them.

Seeing Dorothy’s face light up as the first notes filled the room was a powerful reminder of how meaningful these experiences can be.

For auld lang syne — for old times’ sake. 💙

🎉 A century of care, courage and kindness 🎉

Retired nurse Peggy has just celebrated an incredible 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends at Fern Brook Lodge care home in Gillingham 💐

Peggy’s life has been one of service and perseverance – from caring for her mother-in-law, volunteering during the Big Freeze of 1963, to dedicating nearly 30 years as a nurse. She even met her late husband Jack, an RAF Bomber Command pilot, in a chance meeting at a local pub while he was on leave ✈️❤️

Asked her secret to reaching 100, Peggy said: “Hard work and keep going even when you are tired. I do persevere. I also have a wonderful family.”

Home Manager Sara Maynard added: “Peggy is an incredible lady with a fantastic memory and a big smile. It was a privilege to celebrate such a special milestone with her.”

Happy 100th birthday, Peggy – what an inspiration 🌟🎂

Earlier this week, at Fern Brook, Jan joined us for a beautiful session of reminiscence 💛

We found ourselves chatting about babies, the joy, the chaos, and everything in between. Sharing stories from farming days gone by, and wandering through memories from both the past and the present. It was an easy, gentle conversation, filled with laughter, familiar moments, and reflections that remind you just how rich a life can be.

Moments like these are simple, special, and deeply meaningful ✨

So much energy, laughter, and teamwork at Fern Brook Lodge! ⚽️🙌

AFC Bournemouth’s Community Sports Trust coaches David and Paul brought the fun during a recent games session, getting residents involved in a lively mix of activities and friendly competition. There were plenty of smiles all round as everyone stayed active, connected, and enjoyed the brilliant social atmosphere.

A fantastic visit that showed how sport can bring people together 🍒

Burns Night at Fern Brook Lodge was a truly spirited celebration 🥃🎶

The afternoon unfolded with a wonderful sense of occasion as piper Lyndon led the procession, piping in the haggis with all the ceremony it deserves. Residents gathered to savour traditional haggis, raise a glass of whisky, and share the timeless words of Robert Burns.

Laughter, poetry, and good company filled the lodge, creating an atmosphere that was both festive and heartfelt — a fitting tribute to Scotland’s beloved bard.

✨🎭 Oh yes it was! 🎭✨

Fern Brook Lodge had a wonderful outing to the pantomime to see Beauty and the Beast! Our residents were buzzing with excitement as they took their seats, ready for an afternoon packed with laughter, music, and classic panto fun.

With colourful costumes, lively performances, and plenty of smiles, the show was a huge hit! 😄🌟 The trip sparked lots of happy conversations and gave everyone a chance to share a joyful experience together and make new memories.

✨🎄✨ Festive time Round-Up at Fern Brook Lodge ✨🎄✨

The Christmas and New Year celebrations at Fern Brook Lodge were filled with warmth, laughter, and togetherness. One of the highlights was a truly heart-warming afternoon of Carols Around the Tree, where the Fern Brook Choir filled the space with festive cheer and familiar melodies. 🎶 After practicing so diligently throughout the year with the wonderful support of Activities Assistant Laura, their hard work truly shone through.

Relatives arrived dressed in their Christmas best, sharing fun, food, and friendship with residents throughout the day. Laughter echoed around the home as everyone joined in the celebrations, later gathering together to enjoy the King’s Speech. A delicious Christmas dinner, beautifully prepared by Second Chef Ryan, brought everyone around the table before presents were opened beneath the glowing tree. 🎁✨

We welcomed New Year’s Eve with a gentle and reflective morning of reminiscence, as Jan led a heartfelt conversation about Christmases from years gone by. Stories, memories, and shared laughter set a lovely tone for the day. In the afternoon, the mood shifted to celebration as we rang in the New Year with music, fun, delicious food, and the joy of friendship, a wonderful way to close the year and look forward to the one ahead. 🥳✨

A truly special festive season full of music, smiles, and meaningful moments shared together. 💚

Fern Brook Lodge was filled with festive cheer as our wonderful community came together for this year’s Christmas Fayre. Guests enjoyed an unforgettable afternoon overflowing with music, dance, and holiday spirit — a truly memorable start to the season!

🎶 The Fern Brook Choir set the scene beautifully with their stunning harmonies, bringing warmth and joy to all.
💃 A captivating Thai dance performance added a vibrant cultural touch, delighting everyone.
🎤 And the brilliant Peter Oldford wrapped up the afternoon with festive melodies that had hearts glowing.
