Prolapse, or specifically pelvic organ prolapse is a condition many women experience. The images below show the different types- bladder, womb/ uterus or re**um.
Usually women will describe a feeling of “something coming down” in the va**na or a feeling of discomfort, lump or bulge. This can be mild or intermittent or something that really impacts life on a daily basis.
One of the things that I’ve experienced over 20+ years of working with women with these symptoms is that the size or severity of prolapse and the symptoms don’t always match. Some women with a significant size of prolapse find it’s not very noticeable to them, whereas sometimes women with a smaller bulge on examination have really bothersome symptoms.

What’s important is that any symptoms are addressed to help improve them as much as possible. One of the ways symptoms can be improved is through hypopressive exercise. The breathing technique and poses combined together help you to engage and strengthen your pelvic floor and better manage pressure within your core. We are looking to work the pelvic floor muscles as part of a team of muscles in the body, encouraging them to work more naturally when they are needed.
