I live and work in Scotland and I'm a unison member and local rep as of last week, so today's result (RCN England consultative ballot on industrial action to reject 3%) doesn't directly effect me

but our government and their push for independence (that I fully support) will not want to see Scottish nurses paid less than those of you South of the border.

However I don't see the negativity that others are displaying on social media today.

All is still to fight for.

This was an outstanding result.

Well done all of you in the RCN in England for pulling this off.

This was always going to be round 1 of any industrial action.

The landslide support for industrial action makes it very difficult for those in the RCN leadership who don't want a radical union to give up now.

This was a consultative ballot, they consulted and you overwhelming told them that you were ready to fight for the future of the NHS.

It is true that the turnout would not have satisfied the Anti Union legislation that requires 50%+1 of all members to vote for strike action BUT, this was not a ballot for industrial action, this was only a vote to gauge opinion.

Please get writing into the RCN, insist that they continue on to hold the formal ballot.
If all of you who voted for industrial action can persuade just one more member, to vote for selfless action to protect the future of the NHS then you/ we/ the NHS/ all the people of this country win.

Now is not the time to feel despair or anger at your colleagues, victory, respect and justice are within your grasp after today.

Let us all get to work, let's agitate and explain, educate and support, let each and every one of you rise to be the leaders who shape our future NHS.

The fight has just begun, its time to take the jackets off.

Forward to victory my friends, colleagues and comrades.

This page was formed to build links and ideas on how we can firstly defend what is left of the NHS, but more importantly to share ideas on how we can build a truly equitable NHS, health and social care into the future.

I dont pay it enough attention

I advise people who are interested, to go back and read the initial papers produced by Nye Bevan and others, or listening to his speeches as he birthed the NHS.

Health care was never supposed to be the way the NHS is now.

I often use the adage that 'its better to build a 5 thousand pound fence at the top of the cliff than a 50 million pound hospital at the bottom,

Bevan's 'et al' great idea and mission was 'gold standard' 'public health' care

That the NHS would stop people becoming ill or injured in the first place.

That our hospital beds would never be filled to anywhere near capacity.

The investment in Public health never happened, we are still living with the consequences of poor public health today.

The lack of investment in Public Health is in my opinion, the 2nd greatest threat to the fundamental principles of the NHS,

After the Tories ideological opposition to 'free at the point of delivery, equality of access to health care' NHS.

There are many medics getting involved with the movement that is talked about in this TedTalk, teachers and social workers to.

We all need to know about how our childhood experiences effect our Adult health.

This is the new frontier of healthcare.

We have found the pathogen for the low life expectancy in working class communities and for those who were raised in working class communities yet live as adults in the comfortable leafy suburbs.

I would urge all 'progressive/socialist' Health care workers, Social care and Teachers to arm themselves with this knowledge,

That we may put pressure on the decision makers, to truly invest in children, their lives and communities.

For the children but also for all of us and our NHS.

Scotland can only beat this scourge if we are given the powers to do so.
We need to leagalise all drugs so that users know what they are taking and at what strength.
We need safe places for users to get the most up to date health education and routes out of addiction.
We need to prescribe the users drug of choice and provide safe areas and equipment to use so that we keep them alive and stop the need for theft, burglary and prostitution to feed their habits.
Most of all we need to remove drug use from the criminal courts and treat it as a public health concern.

The country continues to have the worst drug death rate in Europe, with a further 1,339 people dying last year.

A world without vaccines is dangerous and scary.

To build a new NHS with a vision of the future, we should look at the original speeches and writings of Nye Bevan, while recognising best practice from around the world.

The original idea of the NHS was to primarily invest in primary care to stop people becoming ill and injured in the first place.

To build a £5 000 fence at the top of the cliff instead of a £100 000 ambulance at the bottom of the cliff

You will know that Nye had to fight the fight of his life and ultimately lose against the G.Ps who were mostly from the ranks of the rich Tory supporters.
(Not now, the vast majority of G.Ps I know are left leaning at least with many identifying themselves as socialist)

Thus the NHS was born with public health having NHS patients but private, profit orientated primary care staff.

It is my contention that this tension prevented the massive investment in public health care that the new NHS was planned around.

A future NHS should re-examine how we stop illness, child mortality and premature death.

Cuba has many problems, U.S. embargoes and the loss of financial support from the Soviet empire has turned the island nation into a third world country

Yet they continue to have some of the best health care results in the world

Child mortality on a par with New Zealand
Life Expectancy on par with the U.S.

Because they concentrate on Public Health!

We can build the best NHS in the world if we finally put the millions before the Millionaires

The island’s medical system is envied throughout the region and is a major foreign revenue earner

Freedom Day follows Tory Ideology perfectly.

They want the NHS overwhelmed,

They want life saving operations cancelled as they were in Birmingham this week.

They hate the idea that your heart attack is more important than their stubbed toe.

They hate that they cannot buy priority.

They want the NHS to fail

They want to pose private health care as the great saviour.

When private health care can only succeed when the NHS is underfunded.

Freedom day is a direct attack on the NHS by the Tories and the ruling class.

'Google is a poor physician, social media is a poor 'witch doctor'

Trust In the NHS.

It is your NHS.

No human alive can store all the knowledge and skills of humanity.

So as an advanced, optimistic and caring society, we have the intelligence to store this knowledge, for when we need it for ourselves and those we love.

So we pay taxes from our hard earned wage and salary, so that others can learn and specialise in these skills for us.

We build schools, universities, hospitals, care homes, fire stations,

We pay to train nurses, doctors, radiographers, physiotherapists, teachers, social workers, town planners and many more.

Yet its not their 'exclusive' knowledge, it is our knowledge, stored in the minds of others in our communities for when we need it.

The NHS is special,

Hugely undefunded and in danger.

Nurses who have seen their pay fall by 20% in the last 10 years are feeding their children from foodbanks.

The NHS was socialism in practice.

Never believe any Tory who says the NHS is safe in their hands.

They hate the idea that your heart attack will be treated before their split nail.

We all need to come together now to save 'Our NHS'
