Back Pain & Fear 🌊

Did you know that fear and other emotional stressors could be at the root of your back pain and tension? While we most often look to poor posture or physical strain, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the theoretical foundations of Shiatsu Massage, emphasise that emotions play a powerful role in our physical comfort and well-being. According to TCM, the Kidney system is impacted by fear and has a direct influence on the nervous system and spine, meaning long-term stress and anxiety can weaken this vital energy—

I published a post on my blog today, which explores this in more depth, and how Shiatsu and Acupressure Massage can help us to release fear and emotionally rooted tension. Also some self-care tips and acupressure to enhance and nourish the Kidney Ki/ Chi.

This day retreat offers the ultimate blend of relaxation, connection and nourishment, thoughtfully curated for you and your baby.

Nestled in the calming environment that this light and beautiful venue provides, this retreat from day-to-day life offers the ideal space for stress-relief, restoration and the celebration of you at this special time in your life.

Due to the wonderful feedback received from our previous events, we are extending our offering to a full day retreat and providing a delicious lunch from a local café. There will be generous time for each of the practices and space in between for integration and time to connect with other pregnant people. The opportunity to connect and bond with other expectant Mums was an element of previous retreats that our attendees felt was particularly special, and we couldn’t agree more!

The Prenatal Chill retreat will include:

• Beginner-friendly prenatal yoga
• Sound bath with Tibetan singing bowls
• Yoga Nidra for Pregnancy
• Self-acupressure massage
• A delicious, freshly prepared lunch
• Refreshing, warm tea throughout
• A ‘goodie bag’ just for you

All of this, plus the opportunity to learn techniques that will support your well-being throughout your pregnancy, birth and beyond.

Whether you’re seeking connection, rest, support, or simply a chance to spend time with a community of local mums-to-be, we look forward to welcoming you to our Prenatal Chill retreat.

Please feel free to drop us a message with any questions.

Our story begins long before we arrive on the futon for the Shiatsu session.
It is often influenced by patterns of discomfort, pain, and stress, as well as the curiosity and desire to find balance and live with more ease.

Shiatsu meets us in the present moment. It is a supportive treatment that balances the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our being. From a calm and connected place we acknowledge what has been, while cultivating the new patterns we seek.

“Natalie’s Zen shiatsu is an hour of bliss away from whatever is going on outside her zen room.

Natalie uses traditional techniques to determine the massage approach for the treatment and executes it achieving the tricky balance of tension relief and dreamy relaxation. In particular I really enjoy the explanation at the end of the session to highlight the meridians that have been worked upon, and their reference to the body.

Natalie is very thoughtful and perceptive, often providing a lovely wisdom to accompany you along your day as you leave your session.

A lovely hour well spent whenever I visit.”

A recent review. Thank you for sharing. 🤍

The Lung Channel

- belongs to the Metal Element and is associated with the Autumn season.

An important Lung function, according to TCM, is exchange with the universe. Taking in what is needed for life, immunity and vitality. Releasing what is no longer needed. In balance this happens naturally, rhythmically and with ease from the first breath to our last.

Spiritually, this energy represents an acceptance of life and death. In balance we can take in and be inspired by life and equally, we can let life go. Processing grief and inevitable change with acceptance, as difficult or painful as it may be. We live knowing that just as we have taken our first exchange with the universe, there will be a time to take our last.

Autumn serves as a reminder of this cycle of life. Displaying the beauty of what once was flourishing and full of life, beginning to age, descend and return to the earth.

Wishing you a beautiful Autumn season. Sending energy and love to those processing grief and loss. Hoping that the energy of the season holds and supports you.

👋 Meet Katie Oswell

We are thrilled to introduce Katie to you as a new member of

Katie is an Osteopath and she will be practising from the clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from the 1st of October.

Here is a little bit about Katie-

“I’m an osteopath who’s spent the last decade focusing on care for pregnant and postpartum women, newborns and children.

I offer specialised osteopathic care for young families in Glasgow. My clinic days are mostly spent treating women through their pregnancy and after birth and children ranging from newborns up to school age kids. I also end up working in general practice because when you treat babies you end up treating the whole family (grandparents too!)”

Here’s what Katie’s patients are saying-

“I started seeing Katie during my pregnancy for severe hip pain. The pain resolved and her appointments kept me in great shape throughout my pregnancy. Katie is warm, knowledgeable, and offers a unique holistic approach. After our son was born, we continued seeing her regularly. Her gentle approach worked well for him, and she helped us with breastfeeding, digestive issues, sleep, teething, and more. We all felt better after her appointments! We’re grateful for Katie’s continuous care and highly recommend her. ”

You can find out more about Katie and book a session at the clinic via the link in our bio space.

‘Shi’ - finger
‘Atsu’ - pressure
Shiatsu is an eastern massage that involves applying appropriate pressure to acupressure points- ‘tsubos’

Manipulating the tsubo influences a healing response that can initially feel a little achey. Once the energy begins to move with more ease, this sensation promotes relief, allowing for healthier circulation throughout the entire body system.

Some people have described this occurrence as ‘comfortably uncomfortable’ and ‘tender but it feels right.’

Using techniques which manipulate ‘tsubos’ appropriately, allows the body to recognise a temporarily uncomfortable sensation as beneficial and healing.
