Scotland can only beat this scourge if we are given the powers to do so.
We need to leagalise all drugs so that users know what they are taking and at what strength.
We need safe places for users to get the most up to date health education and routes out of addiction.
We need to prescribe the users drug of choice and provide safe areas and equipment to use so that we keep them alive and stop the need for theft, burglary and prostitution to feed their habits.
Most of all we need to remove drug use from the criminal courts and treat it as a public health concern.
The country continues to have the worst drug death rate in Europe, with a further 1,339 people dying last year.
