Calling all P&O practice educators who provide educator support to P&O learners.

BAPO is holding an engagement event for all practice educators who support learners at the University of Strathclyde. Please share with your colleagues and sign up to attend.

Date- 21st May 2pm

This is an opportunity to speak directly with the P&O academic team at the University of Strathclyde. The event will be facilitated by Dr Beverley Durrant, who is leading an NHSE funded project for and on behalf of BAPO. This is a collaborative project, and we would love to hear your views to help secure future P&O pre-registration programmes. Getting the educator support right will be vital to achieving this, and so we want to hear your views on what needs to change or be maintained, to ensure that P&O learners can thrive and educators are enabled and supported.

Social prescribing is reshaping how we think about health, moving beyond clinical interventions to address the wider factors that influence wellbeing.
From understanding community-based support pathways to recognising the role of social, emotional, and environmental factors in patient outcomes, there is a real opportunity to enhance holistic care.
As professionals working closely with individuals over time, prosthetists and orthotists are well placed to contribute to this broader model of care. But what do you need to know, and how can you start integrating it into practice?
Watch this short video to find out more and join the conversation on how our field can engage with social prescribing.

Did you know that members of the British Association of Prosthetics and Orthotics (BAPO) may be eligible to claim tax relief on their professional body fees?

As a recognised professional organisation, BAPO is included on HMRCโ€™s official list of approved professional bodies and learned societies. This means that, if you pay your membership fees yourself (rather than your employer covering them), you may be entitled to claim tax relief and reduce your overall tax bill.

What does this mean for you?
If you are employed and pay income tax through PAYE, you can claim tax relief on the annual cost of your BAPO membership.

How to claim
You can claim tax relief directly through HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). There are a few ways to do this:
Through your Personal Tax Account on the HMRC website.
By post using form P87.
Through self-assessment, if you already complete a tax return.
Once HMRC processes your claim, they may adjust your tax code so that you automatically benefit in future years without needing to reapply.

Key things to remember
You must have paid the fees yourself (not reimbursed by your employer).
You can usually backdate a claim up to four years, so itโ€™s worth checking if youโ€™ve missed out in previous years.
Keep a record of your membership payments as evidence for HMRC.

Why this matters
As part of BAPOโ€™s commitment to supporting its members, we want to make sure youโ€™re aware of the financial benefits available to you. Claiming tax relief is a simple way to reduce costs while maintaining your professional standing and access to BAPOโ€™s support, resources, and representation.
