30 Years of BAPO | Reflections from Our First Chair, Willie Munro

As we celebrate three decades of BAPO, we look back to where it all began — with the vision and dedication of our first Chair, Willie Munro.

In his reflections, Willie shares how early developments in prosthetics and orthotics education, collaboration across the UK, and the drive for state registration helped unite and strengthen the profession.

💬 “The foremost way of demonstrating this confidence was to ensure our professional body was robust and could fight above its weight and be regulated. This was a driving force for me, and I relished the challenge of leading a united profession forward.”

Today, we honour those foundations and continue building on that momentum for the next generation of Prosthetists and Orthotists.

Loughborough University is gathering professional input on long-term residual limb care for lower-limb amputees, as part of a study focusing on preventing secondary issues such as skin breakdown, socket discomfort, and volume fluctuation.

👣 Orthotists Needed – Help Shape the Future of AFO Prescription!

We’re inviting orthotists to take part in an important research study led by the University of Strathclyde.

📋 What’s it about?
You’ll be asked to review a stroke gait report and provide an AFO prescription. This study aims to:
✔️ Explore how orthotists interpret gait analysis reports
✔️ Identify consensus & variability in AFO prescription
✔️ Contribute to the development of a future AFO prescription algorithm

🙋 Who can take part?

Orthotists with experience in AFO prescription

No prior gait analysis experience required
