5 minutes of feeling a bit awkward could save your life, although there is absolutely no need to feel awkward or embarrassed as the nurse has seen it all before.
If you are due a smear test, call or pop in to make an appointment

Are you aged 25–29? When was your last cervical screening aka smear test?

Less than half of women aged 25-29 in GGC are attending smear test appointments when invited, even though it only takes a few minutes and could be lifesaving.

💬⚽To help normalise conversations of smear tests (and make them a lot less awkward!), we’ve teamed up with Glasgow City FC to encourage open, honest chats about why they matter. We'll be sharing more this week.

If you're due a smear test appointment, be sure to contact your GP to lock this in. And, next time you’re talking to your friends, encourage them to do the same!

Our A&E departments are busier than normal. Please think carefully before attending.

Unless it’s an emergency, there are alternative healthcare services to help you get the care you need.

Think ABC before A&E:

✔ Ask yourself: Can I manage this at home? Visit NHS Inform or download the NHS 24 app for advice.
✔ Be aware: Your local GP, pharmacy, dentist, or optician can help with many conditions.
✔ Call 111: If it’s urgent or you’re unsure, NHS 24 will guide you to the right care.

📣 Please share 📣

The festive season can be a tough time of year for many. If you, or someone you know, needs urgent help with mental health or is in crisis, call NHS 24 on 111. If it’s life‑threatening, call 999.

If you just need to talk with someone, help is available:

Samaritans are there 24 hours a day, 365 days a year — call 116 123 (freephone) or email jo@samaritans.org.

Breathing Space offers a confidential phone line for anyone in Scotland feeling low, anxious or depressed — call 0800 83 85 87.

You’re not alone. Please share to help someone who might need this today.
