Please remember that prescriptions take 48 working hours and that after this time patients should check with their nominated pharmacy to see if the prescription is there before phoning the surgery to ask if it has been uplifted. This is extremely time consuming for staff as we get multiple calls like this daily. This is also a contributing factor to patients not being able to get through on the phone (which is an issue raised by many patients) as dealing with patients asking if their prescription is still here and questioning staff about when a chemist will attend takes several minutes which is tying up the phone lines.
Due to the massive increase in people phoning asking about their prescription because 'the chemist isnt answering the phone' admin staff will no longer check to see if any prescription issued less than four working days ago is still in the surgery as it is creating too much of a backlog.
