I met Gillian through the Positive Birth Movement a few years ago and asked her to co-facilitate our south lanarkshire group, really glad she’s now a qualified hypnobirthing teacher offering classes in the area.

Taken on this day two years ago in one of my favourite places in what now feels like a different world. This is a rare bit of ginger skin in the sun but please note I had water resistant factor 50 on...

I am missing being able to go to my favourite places and I am missing seeing folk so much. I am missing being in a yoga class and helping folk practice. I am grateful for loads of course and I can be rational about the ‘why’, but I’m still not able to not be sad about losing this wee bit of my life for now.
I’ve started doing weekly informal yoga class/hang about. I’m limiting it just now to people I’ve previously taught in person or who I know personally because I don’t feel confident or experienced enough at online teaching to support bodies I haven’t seen in real life! If you’d like to join me for it please message or email. X

With everything unfolding, I am making the decision to cancel my in person classes and move online instead. I'm having a wee greet as I write this message as teaching and holding yoga space with you all is one of the greatest joys I know.

Two venues I use have closed, two remain open (The Glad Cafe and The Wee Retreat - please support if you can). I'm taking it week by week.

This will be my live stream schedule this week:

Friday 9am – 10am Vinyasa

Saturday 9am-10am Yin to Slow Flow

Saturday 10.15-11.15am Vinyasa

Sunday 10.30am-11.30am

In terms of Tuesday yin I’m going to pre-record it as audio only and send you that along with a link to my playlist, if you have two devices hopefully you can play both.

Email me - annabeatayoga@gmail.com - with a note of which class you'd like and I will send you the link to stream it.

You can use your current pass or buy a new pass £60 for 11 classes. £6 for a drop in live stream. Im also looking at suggested donation or few quid payments for wee videos and short lunch time live streams - more on that soon!

I'm heartbroken for many reasons and a big one is that I'm scared of the impact on small businesses, freelancers and self-employed and artists which is pretty much my entire community. All the venues I work with are small businesses and most are CICs also. The government's statement yesterday coupled with a total lack of support offered leaves them in a horrendous position. If you're fortunate enough to have stable income at this time please consider buying products or donating to one of them:

The Wee Retreat : https://www.theweeretreat.co.uk/product/gift-vouchers/

Bike for Good Glasgow South: https://www.bikeforgood.org.uk/donations/

The Climbing Academy Glasgow: https://www.theclimbingacademy.com/vouchers/

The Glad Cafe: https://www.thegladcafe.co.uk/shop

And very very close to my heart though I don't teach there The Hug and Pint have a crowdfunder you can support: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/help-the-hug-pint-survive-the-corona-crisis?fbclid=IwAR0PvUzJYF8m7ldyRlGkjzdzA_SqhoHhL943HEkDhqGk1xRMQ8NSdDHqlOc

And I really really appreciate everyone who is able to continue to practice with me online, your support means everything at this time. I will ultimately be ok and the priority is health and keeping vulnerable people safe in amongst this crisis.

I honestly love and value all of you - the people who practice with me every week, the people who I see adhoc, you all bring your energy and enthusiasm and presence and grace into the room and it’s magical and humbling to witness and hold that space. I absolutely love teaching, I’m really, really going to miss that in person time with you all. I’m hoping we will be able to manifest some of it online. But I’m thinking of you all and send so much love and hoping you and your loved ones keep safe, keep well and come through this.

There’s a possibility, a freedom, in not knowing that I am trying to lean into and be present with. There’s things to feel and learn in the face of raw life, death, and when the structures we’ve built start to fall away. There’s the possibility of pain but also of transformation and of fierce love. I am thinking of you all and our yoga space with fierce love. Please stay well and I hope to see you online.

Anna x

***IMPORTANT INFO FOR REGULAR STUDENTS AND THOSE CONSIDERING COMING TO MY CLASSES***

***Update - all face to face teaching suspended***

Hi folks, apologies for lengthy post but I don’t do it much!
Those of you booked in to my classes today or Tuesday already know that I’ve taken the decision to cancel them. I have a mild cold - no fever or cough but if we’re asking students to stay away with any symptoms then I also need to do that!

I’ll reassess what I do with future classes as we go through the week but have to warn that it’s very likely they won’t go ahead.
The article below sums up my reasons for considering this. It’s written by someone with both a public health and yoga background. Some of you know that’s similar to me but infectious disease is definitely not my area so I’m gathering my knowledge the same way as most of us are from listening to more informed voices and trying to make sense of it all. Currently I don’t believe that the UK gov is doing enough or giving a clear enough message and in my other role in academia we’ve been given much stronger guidance from our employer about social distancing and individual behaviour change. There are lots of small things we can all be changing whether we have symptoms or not and if we do what’s feasible just now we can contribute to the bigger picture (in the same way lots of us are trying to do to impact positively on the climate crisis). So for me, cancelling my classes is something feasible that I can do.
Although yoga isn’t my full time job I still rely on it on many levels, a lot of that is the huge amount of enjoyment I get out of teaching, and seeing regularly, such an amazing bunch of folk, as well as being an income stream. If I cancel for the foreseeable future believe me it’s not a decision I’ve taken lightly. And I also appreciate that because I’m part time I am in a very lucky position that I can manage to take that hit financially where others rely on it entirely. Currently insurers won’t cover us so if you do normally go to a teacher/studio and are avoiding it but can still afford to give them something please consider it. (Same situation in so many areas of work affecting so many friends and family so I know you don’t need preached to). And if you do choose to go to class there’s some good advice in here about small changes you can make in class - lots of studios and teachers already employing this.

I’m going to investigate some online options too but if you want to chat or want some thoughts about putting into place a more regular home practice let me know. Social distance doesn’t need to mean isolation so please stay in touch.

Much love,
Susie X

and I are doing a THREE HOUR session in 2 weeks - some flow, some posture focus, some pranayama, some yin, some (giant) yoga nidra. The practice will be guided by the chakras (energy centres) of the body but you don’t need to know anything about them to come along! There will be cups of tea a plenty (booking via link in bio and please note this means our regular morning class in The Glad will not be on that week) @ The Wee Retreat
