Motion is lotion right enough!
Our experience of pain can lead to us developing fear around carrying out specific movements, tasks or activities. This can mean that we do these activities less often and over time we may avoid them altogether. Sometimes even the thought of doing these movements or activities or seeing someone else do it can increase our pain and trigger a reaction in our nervous system turning up the ‘volume’ of pain.
We become conditioned to respond this way as the brain starts to feel safer when we avoid the particular task, activity or movement.
A greater understanding of pain can help reduce the worry about ‘pain meaning damage’ and this can then allow us to feel more confident to try things again knowing they are not causing tissue damage to ourselves.
Over time, this can help us to re-engage with movements and activities which matter to you and improve your quality of life.
