Come and see us for our last day at this wonderful fair. Nick and I have had such a lovely few days doing all our Christmas shopping (and a few bits for us 😆) it’s one of the best fairs we do - such a brilliant mix of handmade and antique as well as food and drink all run by such lovely business owners, who are all working so hard at this time of year. If your in London come along and say hi 👋 ###

Excited for a busy few days ahead, and even more excited to introduce our newest members of Scott’s Apothecary family…our eau du parfum 🎉🎉
Come try them tomorrow Christmas fair 4-8pm or where we will be until Sunday!
Hand Made in small batches in our studio in Scotland we use a high percentage of the finest natural botanicals in our perfumes and only a few aroma chemicals (needed to round out the botanicals and to make the scent last) but these are all paraben free and vegan and used in a tiny amount. I’ve been scent blending for the last three years for my family and I hope you enjoy them as much as I have loved making them. They are unisex and also come in a handy 10ml refillable bottle. Not on our website yet so get in touch if you would like more info!

Pop along this Saturday if your local to the first of our Scottish fairs this winter - which I’ve been abysmal at promoting 🙈 - to get a little bit festive, eat a mince pie or two and hopefully buy some lovely local handmade bits and bobs.
the wonderful Jen from .j.cushions and I will be back for our 4th or is it 5th annual little do at our local pub to sell stuff and introduce some lovely little numbers I’ve had in the pipe line for several years but only just bringing to market eek.
Hope to see some of you there. Alice xx

We are all guilty of not cleaning our brushes but with this tip we hope to entice you as well as remind ourselves!
Make up brushes are a glorious microclimate for bacteria, grease, dirt and product build up that can aggravate skin, create skin problems and just not do us any favours.
Here are 3 wonderful ingredients, back again, to save the day!

Gentle reminders for getting the best from your well invested treats…
1. The first burn is the most important - especially if you are burning natural wax candles which have a much slower burn time. Always burn your candle for long enough to allow the melt pool to reach all the edges of the candle (usually around 2 hours on a medium candle). This avoids a ‘tunnel’ effect running down the centre of your candle.
2: S***f out rather than blowing out the candle, we just use the lid of the candle, but you can use a candle snuffer. This avoids smoke and keeps your wick as good as possible for the next burn.
3: love your wick. Natural wax doesn’t get as hot as synthetic wax, so you shouldn’t get too big a wick or a lot of smoke, however if it naturally petals out, which is normal, you extend it life by gently removing these blooms that form at the top of the wick.
4: Avoid placing your candle in a draughty area, this causes a larger flame that will mean your candle burns faster.
5: re-use your jar! Place the glass in the freezer for 20 minutes allowing the wax to shrink so you can easily remove any left over wax from the jar. Wash out and reuse for plants, pens, making your own candle or beauty cream, spice jar or to make your own vinegrette.
6: You can even spray our Sleep Tight mist on your dressing gown or pjs in prep for that relaxing and deep slumber
Happy treating! 😘

Trying to start the month as you mean to go on with more variety in your fruit bowl but there are some unwelcome visitors?
Give this a go! Remember too to keep your bananas separate from the rest of the fruit bowl, read on to see why.

I know some cleaning products have pastel hues and floral displays on, but I am always drawn to that apothecary, tincture and tonic aesthetic with glass and kilners. They can be reused, you can mix and match your bases for different things , they are air tight. Chef’s kiss in my opinion!
Anyone else got this?….. just me?!

Favourite shirts and those tees need not be cast out! Practically thinking it is just a build up of powders that embed in the fibres and we just need to kick them out.
Roll on and stick deodorants do less damage and although they might need a bit of topless wing flapping to dry before putting clothes on they are also better for you. Has anyone given a try?

Having a good old clean out and still the warm feeling of orange and clove is still so welcome in the house on these cold days, but there is just something about opening the doors, letting the fresh air in and letting Lime & Bay shine in lifting my mood, giving a different energy to day time and saving the candles for when the sun goes down.

As a trained chef and registered nutritional therapist I have always played with recipes: whether that be in the kitchen or in the lab. Strong synthetic smells make me sneeze, and I can’t be in the same room as chemical air fresheners or strongly fragranced candle. I wanted to see if I could make my own, using natural products, and reduce my exposure to the household chemicals. So I started experimenting with my sister-in-law Toni, and turns out we could make them, and they smelt fantastic!
Scott’s Apothecary was born from us both loving to create and learn, and wanting to share that with others. Our workshops are very relaxed welcoming spaces, with small enough sized classes so each of you get individual support in blending your own perfume or scent for your product. Everyone leaves with their beautiful bag of natural hand made goodies and a recipe pack to inspire them to keep making.
I hope to see you at one of our upcoming workshops.
Lots of love ,
Alice x
