Blue skies and sunny weather are forecast for much of Scotland over the coming days ☀️

It’s tempting to make the most of the outdoors when the sun comes out, but it's important to do it safely and be aware of the effects of the sun's heat and rays. Follow our tips:

• keep covered up during the summer months - especially when the sun is at its hottest (11am to 3pm)
• cover up with a long-sleeved shirt
• wear a hat with a brim or flap that protects the ears and neck
• wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from damage
• get into the shade when the sun is at its hottest (11am to 3pm)
• use sunscreen of at least SPF 15 (sun protection factor 15) to protect against UVB
• use sunscreen on any part of the body you can’t cover up
• apply sunscreen as directed on the label
• use a sunscreen with at least 4-star UVA protection
• re-apply sunscreen regularly
• always re-apply sunscreen after being in water

Cases of measles in some other parts of the UK and overseas are higher than they are in Scotland. That's why it's important everyone going on your family holiday has had two doses of the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine before travelling outside Scotland this summer.

For more information on measles, and how to check you and your family are fully protected, visit nhsinform.scot/MMRagainstMeasles

A couple who experienced both joy and heartbreak over the birth of their twins have paid tribute to NHS staff who cared for them.

Baby Freddie Whyte sadly passed away just hours after he and his twin sister, Marnie, were born at University Hospital Wishaw, home to NHS Lanarkshire’s maternity services.

Mum Amy Brown and dad Josh Whyte, from Hamilton in South Lanarkshire, were devastated to lose Freddie but took comfort from the safe arrival of Marnie.

Now the couple has raised £3,000 to buy a cold cot for the hospital’s Neonatal Unit, with the support of baby loss charity Abigail's Footsteps.
