PCOS is being renamed PMOS —>
Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome
to better reflect the true nature of the condition.
For years, the name ‘Polycystic O***y Syndrome’has been misleading. Many women with PCOS don’t actually have ovarian cysts, and the condition involves far more than the ovaries alone.
It’s a complex hormonal, endocrine and metabolic condition that can affect many areas of health.
The proposed name change follows years of global research and collaboration with women living with the condition, healthcare professionals and patient organisations.
Support for the change is strong, with many believing it could improve:
✨ awareness
✨ earlier diagnosis
✨ understanding
✨ access to better care
✨ future research and funding
There will be a transition period where both PCOS and PMOS are used while awareness grows.
Most importantly, women living with the condition helped drive this change and their voices have been central to the conversation ❤️
