Happy Scottish Learning Disability Week 💜

For many years, Learning Disability Week has been a platform for people with learning disabilities to answer questions, to focus on their lives and experiences, to raise awareness, to celebrate achievements, and to highlight discrimination.

This year’s SLDW theme is “I Am Here” as people with learning disabilities most often feel they are excluded from jobs, healthcare, social events, and culture.

Join us to celebrate achievements and talents of people with learning disabilities, and discuss and understand the challenges they face every day.

Cosgrove Care is sad to announce the passing of Sharon Katz who has been supported by the organisation for many years. Sharon lived at Arnside Avenue, Giffnock for the last 25 years, sharing a flat with friends Daniel, Howard and Brian and with support from the Cosgrove Care team.

Sharon was a well-known and positively contributing member of the Jewish community despite the challenges that she faced. Her faith was very important to her. She would never be without her star of David necklace and would often recite The Torah.

Sharon always loved all things clothes and jewellery. So much so, the spare room in Sharon’s flat became her second wardrobe. She loved shopping and visiting charity shops where she thought for a long time as it was a charity shop, she didn’t need to pay! Sharon loved shopping in the Cosgrove Care charity shops.

Sharon always said she would have loved to tap dance and would demonstrate her commitment to the staff by kicking her legs up and practicing every day. She always said she could be the next Shirley Temple. This was in fact, a very good talent of hers.

Although Sharon was an only child, her cousin Arnold stayed locally and remained a big part of her life. Sharon also became part of the Arnside Avenue family since 2000, where she was supported until she passed. Daniel, Howard, Brian and Colin and David all became Sharons brothers and Donna became her sister. They all shared many birthdays, Hanukkah’s, and other holidays together celebrating. Later, Cameron, Graham, Fraser, Adam and Stuart all moved in, and Sharon very much adopted a mother hen approach to the whole house. Everyone loved her. Cosgrove has been a huge part of Sharons life and have supported her for over 25 years. The staff at Arnside were so important to Sharon and had also become her family. We will all miss her very much.
