Freedom One Life

Freedom One Life Founded by a power wheelchair user, we create next-generation mobility products to allow wheelchair users to live the life they choose.

The founder, Alex Papanikolaou, created Freedom One Life due to the limitations of the stagnant powerchair market which he experienced first-hand. Our vision is to deliver radical change to the market, offering a revolutionary power wheelchair to improve independence and stretch the boundaries of powerchair users. We have done this in 4 key ways:

Performance - we have created the biggest wheelchair battery in the world, delivering a world-beating 40-kilometre range in real-world conditions on a single charge. Our high-efficiency motors deliver triple the power of comparable chairs on the market, and we also have a compact design, ideal for precise manoeuvrability. Reliability and Safety - Our battery has five years of charge cycles, we use premium grade materials to improve strength and stability, and cables and components are completely enclosed, protecting them from damage. Comfort and Convenience - Adjustable ergonomic seating and tilt and lift functions for flexible positioning. We are the only chair in the world to have an onboard, integrated charger. We also use low-pressure, extra-wide rear tyres for a smoother ride. Transportability - 30% lighter than comparable powerchairs on the market, crash-tested, and with accessible lift points for transit.

Florence is looking forward to attending charity events for and in her new Series 5 sporting their lovely purple and orange colours.

It’s an unexpected and new combo for us but I really love it, it reminds me of an iris!

What do you think of this combo? 🍊🍇

Last week the team were racing around Dusseldorf for 2025, and it was our biggest and best year yet! We had a great time meeting so many amazing people, showing off the Series 5, competing for the best lap times on our custom built Scalextric track, and getting everyone excited about the Race Across Europe documentary, which is dropping later this year.

What do you think of our Gulf Ford GT40 inspired racing powerchair – the go faster stripe really works!

Falling in love again and again with our Thistle Green 😍💚☘️ This time with a brushed steel badge, which looks really cool!

Since we introduced this colour to our standard range, it has been so popular - and I can see why! 💫

It looks beautiful in matt, satin and gloss and strikes the perfect balance between fashionable and classic. 💛

I'm definitely not going to get sick of seeing this colour around the office before they head out for delivery! 📦🚚

What badge colour would you pick? 💬👇

And the winner is… Team Haydn! 🎉

After an action-packed week of travel and challenges, the points were tallied and one team rose to the top.

All four of our contestants amazed us on their journey, and each have ended up a winner in their own unique way. But, it is of course a competition, and there can only be one winner.

Kate met up with Sandro and busked to an enormous audience, managed to convince the conductor to let her drive the train and constantly pushed herself to the limit physically and emotionally.

Oli made some incredible postcards for every city he visited and managed to take a whopping 10 forms of public transport during the trip - his endless energy and growing confidence was amazing to watch!

Katharina racked up over 120km during just four days, got to go on the beach for the first time in 20 years and fulfilled her dream of seeing Paris! From early morning until late at night, her energy never dipped - we are absolutely floored at the amount of mileage she managed to do in such a short time.

As for the winner….

Haydn wowed us all in the luggage challenge, teaming up with the incredible .shop.verona - a talented collective of artists who paint using their feet or mouths. Huge thanks to Paula and Francesca for turning Haydn’s case into a true work of art! 🎨✨

From city to city, Team Haydn not only completed every challenge but also went the extra mile to push themselves further. In Amsterdam, they braved Europe's highest swing - dangling over the edge of a skyscraper (gulp!) - and in Verona, they sung for Juliet at the top of their lungs!

Travelling across Europe isn’t without its barriers, but Haydn and his travel crew - Alex, Gregor, and Giuseppe - tackled every hurdle with determination, adaptability, and an unshakable sense of adventure.

With his infectious smile and hilarious banter with the team, Haydn has been an absolute joy to follow. And trust us… this won’t be the last you see of him! 💛🏁

24 trains, 18 cities and 10 countries later, our racers have crossed the finish line in Turin!

Following the journey this week has been magical, and we will all get to relive it when the final footage is edited together later this year!

Haydn had what only could be described as a lads holiday, Kate raked in the cash busking, Oli managed to get arrested at 16 and Katharina put her travel companions through Olympic level marathon training running after her.

These four individuals have achieved what many non-disabled people only dream of, and what many think is impossible.

Freedom One Life was founded many years ago to create a powered wheelchair designed through lived experience for the real world. Four people have raced across Europe with a Series 5 and enjoyed the benefits of using a powerchair designed by powerchair users.

Race Across Europe was created for three main reasons:

1️⃣ Challenge perceptions around disabled travel

2️⃣ Show what is possible with the right planning & the right powerchair

3️⃣ Show disabled people in a new light, focussing on fun, adventure and competitiveness (although we underestimated quite HOW competitive they would all be!)

Our incredible competitors all brought something unique to this competition, and represent a large cross section of powerchair users.

Our request for our competitors and anyone else following along: share the story and encourage others to be a little braver - whether ‘brave’ means a trip down the road or a continent crossing adventure.

A huge thank you to our incredible competitors, who pushed themselves to the limit – mentally, physically, and sometimes even geographically! We’re so proud of everything you’ve achieved.

Thank you to our amazing sponsors .nordost .carstens Lightbug .ihrsanitaetshaus for making this possible, to everyone who’s cheered us on from afar, the fantastic camera team who captured every second, and to the brilliant FOL team whose hard work turned this trip from an idea into reality.

Here’s to all the adventures still to come!

Day 4 Recap ✅

Team Katharina melted in the Genoa heat. This is the first time Katharina has been in Italy as she assumed it would be very inaccessible - but she was pleasantly surprised! The birthplace of pesto, Genoa has lots of delicious food which we had in abundance! We spent loads of time splashing about at the Ferrari Square fountains! 🍕🍝

Team Kate arrived in a sweltering Milan (poor Louise, our team ginger, was feeling the heat!) after a beautiful train journey from Basel, with scenery so stunning no one could look away. The day was all about soaking up the city, looking in the designer windows, eating pasta, and more extreme mode challenges for Kate!

Haydn got romantic in Verona. Fighting like a gladiator and serenading to Juliette's balcony. After going out for a drink the boys couldn't find an accessible taxi so had to walk over an hour to get back to the hotel. There are so many amazing memories and accessibility wins during the trip but there are always reminders that the world is often not designed accessibly. ♿👩🏻‍🦽

A long 7 hour train journey to Zurich for Oli had some of the most beautiful views of the entire trip, making it a ral highlight. Oli said Zurich was his favourite city on the trip, so hopefully one day he will be able to visit again to see more of the city! The city was super accessible and easy to get around with a wonderful atmosphere. Oli spent the day as a snobby chocolate critic at - Maria Fiore deserves a massive shoutout for giving Oli some samples and being so accommodating despite some accessibility barriers getting into the shop. 🍫
