Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in the UK for men with 1 in 8 men being diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.

At Ross Hall Hospital, we understand it can be overwhelming choosing the best course of treatment. That’s why, we are proud to offer SpaceOAR™ Hydrogel which is designed to lessen the radiation dose to the re**um whilst you undergo your radiotherapy treatment.

The SpaceOAR™ Hydrogel acts as a ‘spacer’ to create a barrier between the re**um and the prostate aiming to decrease the injury to the re**um. This occurs by pushing the prostate further away from the re**um, ensuring the radiation dose delivered is lessened.

“SpaceOAR acts like a cushion between the prostate and the bowel, helping protect you from radiation side effects and making treatment safer and easier to get through” – Professor Imran Ahmad, Consultant Urological Surgeon.

‘Make it to Munich’ is the inspiring story of how Ethan Walker, a young Scottish Footballer who suffered life threatening injuries whilst studying in the US, undertook a charity cycle from Glasgow to Munich in time for Scotland's opening game in the 2024 Euros.

Once Ethan was able to travel home from the US, he still needed knee surgery and met with Professor Gordon Mackay, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Ross Hall Hospital. Prof Mackay was so inspired by Ethan’s story that he, alongside Ethan and two members of the Tartan Army, Martyn and Stephen, decided to cycle 1,200km from Hampden Park in Glasgow to Munich! 🚴

This incredible journey was filmed and the documentary, ‘Make It to Munich’, will be broadcasted on BBC Scotland at 9pm on Monday 1 September.

On Friday July 11th, Aurel (one of our Patient Administrators at Kings Park Hospital) ran 33.27 miles from Ross Hall Hospital, in Glasgow, to Kings Park Hospital, in Stirling in support of The Scott Martin Foundation.

The Scott Martin Foundation, Kings Park Hospital’s local charity this year, was set up to raise awareness and provide mental health support for young people

With a total time of 5 hours and 45 mins with temperatures peaking at 32.9 degrees, Aurel raised an outstanding £770.

Well done, Aurel, this is not only an incredible achievement (especially running in that heat), but also an amazing amount raised! ☀️👏

At Ross Hall Hospital, we are the only private hospital in Scotland with a level 3 intensive care unit (ICU), staffed by an experienced, multidisciplinary critical care team. This enables us to carry out a range of complex surgeries including heart surgery and major bowel resections.

The ICU facilitates higher risk patients with complex health conditions who often would not be appropriate for surgery elsewhere, whilst the facility frequently supports patients with common health conditions including sleep apnoea, COPD, diabetes and heart conditions.

With patient safety at the heart of what we do, we are proud to give our patients peace of mind through our intensivist care facilities.
