Over the past few days, Team Royale have watched the events in America, and now the UK with sadness in our eyes and hurt in our hearts. And now is the time to speak out, as we are privileged to have a platform to reach wide beyond the standard social circle.
Although it should really go without saying, not one single person on this planet deserves to be treated even the slightest bit differently to any other based on the colour of their skin.
No one should be murdered by a police officer during detainment. (George Floyd)
No one should be shot in their sleep for the crime of being in their own home. (Breonna Taylor)
No one should be denied essential medication in prison, after suffering horrendous brutality at the hands of the police. (Sarah Reed)
No one should have 14 bullets fired at them while surrendering to the police. (Gabriella Nevarez)
No one should be shot dead for calmly complying with police instructions. (Oscar Grant)
And this barely skims the surface. In what world can that be right? That millions of people live in fear due to the pigmentation of their skin? Something beyond their control, that doesn't determine a single thing about their propensity to commit a crime?
Royale has always been a system that celebrates inclusivity and individuality, and that extends beyond the pageant community into the whole world.
We stand by not only our pageant sisters of colour, but the extended communities of friends, family, and those we have not been fortunate enough to meet.
We are devastated. We are heartbroken. We are angry. And we are all in this together until the day we see real change, and then for as long as it takes for it to stick.
We stand beside you.
